2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

The Dolphins and Josh Kerr are reportedly preparing to challenge the NRL's breach notice for his comments about Klein after Origin 3.

Kristian Woolf said:

“We’re supporting Kerry and have asked some questions around it, without going into details,” he said.

“That’s what everyone loves about Kerry. You put a microphone in front of his mouth and he tends to talk if you ask him a question.

“That’s his personality and why everyone loves being around him. He’s happy and talkative and always got something going on in his mind.

“He’s a great, fun guy to be around. It was certainly said in a fun context. I don’t think there was anything sinister about the comments at all. He was looking for a laugh.

“It’s a situation he shouldn’t have been put in, to be fair. It could have been handled a little bit better.

“I’m not going to point fingers at anyone or go into any more detail. It’s a situation he shouldn’t have been in and is probably a little bit harsh, particularly with the context.”
i.e. how about the NRL control their lead broadcasters otherwise all the players will be shut behind media managers and the origin build up they complained about will get significantly worse

“We were sitting there going, ‘it’s rorted, the game’s rorted.’ We were all on the sideline just going, ‘oh no, it’s a double agent.’”

He has no chance of winning this. Maybe they will be lenient but even if lighthearted the implication wont be accepted by the NRL. He will get a penalty of some sort.

I only read the quotes once, but at first glance it looked like Redcliffe were requesting further clarification rather than straight out refuting the claim and looking to fight it.

I think where they would be looking to take it, is that he was interviewed by media outside of the RLPA requirements... ie it was an unsanctioned interview.

They'd also flag no reasonable person would take Kerr's quotes as being genuine ie. his comments were sarcastic... which is probably the main way they'd try to fight the claim.

And if NRL deny and claim something like players are fair game if they choose to talk to media, then pretty much every team will be like... "well **** ya then... all our players are off limits except for sanctioned media by the clubs and RLPA"

Media were sitting outside the hotel grabbing them after they'd been on the turps all night celebrating... moving forward QRL and NSWRL will have a wall of security sitting outside the hotel and not allow anyone to talk to the media.

The media will complain that they get no access to players, but only have themselves to blame because they keep ragebaiting and blowing everything up for clicks... so **** em

I dont think the media has blown this up to be fair. I haven't seen 1 word about it criticising him and how it is not on. I saw it on nrl360 for 15 seconds with the other post turps interviews and they just laughed.

Agree that they haven't blown it up, but I think it's more that the media decided to release it at all... they knew Kerr would be ****ed with what he said, but they still decided to release the footage.

That's what's getting criticised about the media's actions.

They just can't help themselves when they get their hands on something that will create a couple clicks.

NRL have basically been forced to punish him, because he's calling out the integrity of the ref (which was accurate) and it's been plastered over Fox Sports News, etc. so they cant just stick their head in the sand... they tried to softball it with a small fine, but Kerr isn't a million dollar marquee signing so dolphins are pushing back.

NRL could've worked behind the scenes with dolphins/QRL and got Kerr to apologise, flag that he wasn't being serious, etc. and then be done with it.

NRL have ****ed up by taking it so serious and media have ****ed up because they're greedy scum... if they can't figure out how to backtrack, then access to players may be further restricted.

Disgraceful. I hope we thrash the pants off them when we play them at their home game this year. I'm sure the Johns brothers will have something to say about this sort of treatment.

What cockwomble chose the Storm to promote this organisation? I mean deadset you could not have chosen a worse team to slap poor Alex in the face than these bunch of shits.

That has to be bullshit right? I can't see McKinnon not having lifelong season tickets after what he's been through...surely. I mean, it's the Knights though so who knows.

What isn't bullshit though is that they've scheduled the promotion of this organisation against the Storm of all teams. Completely tone deaf and just in really poor taste IMO.

Lol @ Dragons

The Dragons celebrated the 15 year anniversary of their 2010 Premiership last weekend. however, only 4 players from the GF team actually showed up.

Turns out that the low attendance wasn't because the absent players / coaches didn't want to be there ... It's because they reportedly weren't invited nor were they even told it was happening ... the 4 that showed up all work for the club in some capacity.

Wayne Bennett said:

“I never got an invitation,”

“It’s not that we didn’t turn up because we didn’t want to be there. We didn’t know it was on a lot of us. Other guys were in the same boat.

“No one seems to know where it came from, how it happened. Still no-one has talked to me. Three years ago we all went to the races here in Sydney.

“We came from all over Australia to be there.”

Don't the Dragons have form for this?

I swear there was a similar incident involving them a few years ago where they didn't invite certain people to some event.

They're called dargons for a reason... attention to detail or any attention at all doesnt seem to be their forte.

Like seriously?! The way some clubs are managed it’s like they’ve never evolved from running the clubs based on proceeds from meat and chook raffles

Well they haven't and it comes from the top down. It is an amateur competition masquerading as professional.

Kevvie in the box seat. Hope he gets it.

I think he probably makes the most sense... issue could be who he picks as assistants.

Kevvie is a man manager, but then he doesn't pick technical assistants, because he wants to do it himself.

Mal has survived because he just takes Hagan with him from Qld to Aus... and before Hagan he had Neil Henry.

I wonder if Hagan stays with Aus or if he potentially follows Mal to Perth... Mal has grabbed Gardiner and it looks like he's been earmarked as future coach when Mal moves on, but Mal will want more than one assistant.

Yea but it's the Australia team. Can't be that hard to coach.

Yeah Aus team is basically chuck it in cruise control and they coach themselves.

Although some tougher questions might be coming.

Media seems to be claiming Haas and Tino are heading over to Samoa for the next world cup.

Suddenly the Aus forward pack isn't as strong... and they'll be coming up against opposition forward packs with Haas, Tino, AFB, JFH, etc.

We'll have guys like Patty and Yeo, but a lot of the top forwards at the moment seem to be playing origin, but playing elsewhere at the international stage.
