2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

My work tipping comp has me so conflicted. I'm 3 wins clear at the top and there is $600 at stake (we all put in $50). But now it's so close I find myself cheering on the team I tipped (eg, Panthers tonight) instead of the Raiders (who 2nd - 4th picked).

Lots of conflicting stories out there about it but apparently they want him to choose staff from the Super League? Adrian Lam etc I guess?
I’ve got a bad feeling about this Ashes tour.. the apparent lack of early planning and organisation (Brad Fittler declined the coaching job due to this), this stunt from Walters to try to smuggle his close mate onto the tour and now this strange assistant coaching requirement..

Between all this and the blokes withdrawing from Australian selection, feels like a disaster in waiting

Hope I’m wrong of course

I'm excited to see a more level competition. It should be something that drives Australia to foster more talent, as well as for the International Rugby League to invest in other competitions in Tonga, Samoa, etc.
It's silly to get petty about wanting to have an international competition, then complaining that all the lads are from the NRL and only have familial or heritage ties to other countries, and should choose Australia first, blah blah blah.
Trying to have the cake and eat it too, I reckon.

If you want a coach, Kev in this case then let him do it. I don't like this interference. If he picks a dud coaching team and they lose well it's his head.

I think give him a budget and say hire your staff. That's a big part of rep coaching.

I do not get why there is so many people taking Haslers side in that exchange he had last night. Especially Titans fans. It was about time he was challenged and made to actually answer some questions. It is widely known he is invisible during the week. He was his typical dismissive arrogant self too. Maybe the crowd shit was a low blow but good on whoever it was that kept going at him. These coaches get away with the bare minimum when it comes to being accountable.

I was more curious about the hand signals he was bleating on about.

Actually the media were grubs on that. They reported it as Des blowing up and it was the journalist who chucked a wobbly. His comment about the crowd made no sense in context.

Good on Kev for sticking solid.

It's not a coach's job to talk about player movements in a post-match press conference.

You're there to talk about the game. If you ask the question, accept the answer. Don't chuck a hissy fit because he won't give you a story.

Hannay confirmed as coach (3yr deal)... Sattler coming in as director of football and Anthony Laffranchi as head of recruitment

A lot of movement in important positions right there... will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

I believe Anthony Laffranchi is currently with titans, but unsure what his role is.. he will arguably be in one of the most important roles for the team if they are to turn things around.

Laffranchi was some form of head of football style role so technically a demotion. Most Titans fans want him gone as he’s been around those roles for something like 7-10 years and we’re not seeing much but guess we shall see going forward. Wasn’t sold on Hannay personally but hopefully he has what it takes. Support staff appointments should be interesting to watch.

Scott Sattler is a great pick up. Listened to him on SEN all the time. He is really dialed in to how the game is today and what it takes. Think he knows what kind of a roster they need. Hopefully he has more of a say than Laffranchi.
