2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

Almost every decision she makes is a head scratcher. That’s the thing, after this amount of time in the NRL at what point is she deemed not suitable?

Who's to say she isn't getting further training.
Not sure if it will do any good though because that Sami decision is almost impossible to **** up.
I am talking some sort of training she needs to literally pass before being allowed back out there... No set comeback. You literally couldn't name another person in the country let alone another referee that clears that.

Your team got shafted so bad last week, credit to you handling it with class. It was disgraceful how much favour the 'better' team got, it cost you the win, there's no two ways about it.

Can't say I've watched much of the Eels in a good year or two but can anyone tell me their thoughts on Bailey Simonsson. Apparently pretty likely he's headed to the Titans end of this year or start of next. Thought I used to rate him but haven't seen him much.

I can never tell the difference between Bailey Simonsson and Sean Russell... I think Simonsson is considered the better player though?

I always just get the feeling that he's solid... he went through a purple patch a couple years back, but is coming back from an ACL this year.

Probably a better centre than winger to me and seems pretty strong 1v1

Can the NRL please explain how dropping Badger for a week again helps anyone? Surely at a certain point there at least has to be some sort of training she has to go through before coming back.
What training could help at this point?

"Casey, can you hit a player in the head?"
"Me? I don't think so, are refs allowed to do that?"
"No Casey I mean are players allowed to hit other players in the head?"
"Yes"
"No, no Casey we have been over this so many times they are NOT allowed to"
"Then why didn't you say that?"

Former NRL forward Lloyd Perrett has launched a $5 million lawsuit against the Manly Sea Eagles, claiming he was placed in a comatose state for two days after a training session he has never recovered from.
Perrett is claiming career ending injuries were suffered during a pre-season workout at the Narrabeen Sports Complex in November 2017, resulting in "loss of NRL career” and “loss of future incoming earning capacity”.
Perrett said for years he had grappled with whether to proceed with legal action but that he felt he had no choice.
“I feel I need to do this,” Perrett said at the time. “It’s not about money. It’s not about me. I put my ego aside because I know people are going to tease me. They already are. They’re saying I’m just a wash-up, I’m not good enough, that I’m trying to get money and all that. But it’s about player safety.”
The outcome of this trial could have significant impacts on training practices across the code.
VIA- THE RUGBY LEAGUE REPORT

Just heard ufc is going to paramount+...

With rugby and the epl on stan, a league on paramount+, new rich owners of foxtel/fox sports, AND the afl already selling their rights if the next nrl deal isn't the biggest of ANY CODE in history pvl needs to be investigated for corruption. Such a powerful position!

Streaming services are a serious, serious player. Who knew Dave Smith was onto something all those years ago (hence fox/news limited straight up bullying/harassing him out of the game and the masses/fans believing it all).

A personal opinion but I think that televised post-match press interviews are a total waste. How many people actually sit and patiently wait to hear either one side smiling and trumpeting (and occasionally gloating) over their victory ... whilst on the other side side of the coin we're treated to a litany of reasons from the coach and a glowering skipper as to why "we've got to be better" or "we'll take a look at that on Monday" or muffled and not-so-subtle references to the referees visual acuity or parentage. Always the same formula, so much so that maybe they should just let some AI whiz-kid cobble those sessions together before the game's even played. Just sayin'.

Because every now and then we get a Sticky blow up presser... or Robinson given another final warning

It's interesting if you listen to every afl post match post conference I reckon 90% of them give a huge amount of detail and explanation in their answers. It's actually insightful. AFL coaches respect the game for the most part and actively give the questions proper answers. Most of these NRL coaches couldn't give two ****s and think they are above it. It's been like this in the nrl forever. It's part of the culture and it stinks.

Why I respect Bellamy so much. Always gives great press conferences win or Lose. Sits their for 10mins usually everytime and doesn't make journalists feel like they are on egg shells asking a question.

Hearing DCE will retire at seasons end. Maybe announce it after his 350th
Lol sounds like he's announcing retirement before he finds out his protein shake has been spiked.

Sydney media have been running protection on Uncle Nick with the whole "he's a man of his word" when it comes to the DCE deal... now Cherry suddenly has a change of heart and is happy to forego a massive payday that he had lined up next year.

I'm guessing he'll still be straight into the rorters coaching staff

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors.
My best guess is he still gets his $$$.
Roosters would be crazy to upset what they have going on ATM.

NRL 360 were saying because he has a contract with the Roosters he'll still get his cash ... But because it hasn't been registered with the NRL yet, the Roosters could just make him a coach, and not have that contract counted on the salary cap
