Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

I am also on the bandwagon that Reyno should hang up the boots. I just remember Boyd who stayed one year too long (or maybe two) and it kind of tarnished him a bit.

Our best halves pairing this year was hunt and Walters. They both straightened our attack and gave Walsh more time on the ball, better than Ezra and reyno did.

I think there is actually a formula for starting Mam on the bench and have him come on after 20 minutes.

With bunt and walters who can cover hooker and half I see Mam as being an impact player who can completely change the pace of fhe game when he comes on. Particularly if you line it up with willisons quick play the balls.

I think given we have so much utility value it actually served us well this year. Teams had no idea how to prepare for us... Hunt shape, reyno shape, walsh out the back short pass, cut out whatever the ****, nobody knows what we are going to do, its a huge advantage!

As champions its no longer who the Broncos need, but who deserves the Broncos.

Haas won't go. He'll earn exceptional money with us. Sure, it's not going to be R360 money, but its going to be great money over many more years, family is here, and I think its safe to say he does love the club.

Hopefully these boys all now want to go on and create something real special together and attempt to dominate for a while like Penrith have.

Ideally Reynolds retires, he has been below standard all year excluding the game against the Dogs.

Rd 1 pending no injuries

1. Walsh
2. Karapani
3. Staggs
4. Shiba
5. Mariner
6. Mam
7. Hunt
8. Jensen
9. Billy
10. Haas
11. Piakura
12. Riki
13. Carrigan

14. Mozer
15. Willison
16. Talty
17.

I'm also not against Shiba being turned into a back rower, he does have issues defensively which would be less likely to be exposed closer to the ruck, and Riki could be turned into a bench middle. Which would bring Anderson into the side and Riki to complete the bench.
I like this lineup, but sounds like Billy won't be there Rd 1.

Provided his shoulder's good, I'd have Mozer starting hooker, Paix to the bench where he can be a reserve half as well. Bukowski maybe gets the 14 if he's killing it too much to ignore. That 17 seems wide open - BTK, Gos, JHunt, Tawha, Semu, Bryce... someone's going to stand up in the preseason I reckon

Go after some decent second rowers and start brainstorming some solutions to our imminent halves problem
I would be having a conversation with both Hunt and Reyno. Guarantee their money as coaching staff then use the cap space to get Pezet. I believe he has an option in his favour.
Prob get him for 600kish and have a chunk left to upgrade X and Shiba.

I think we need to be realistic with our budget for the number 7 jersey. Pezet is going to cost us too much. WIth big game Mam and Walsh running the show we don't need the fancy number 7 IMO. No frills kick to the corner and have a run every once and while is what we need.

Bring back Croft?

Yeah disagree. Pezet is not too fancy. I really don't think we break the bank in any way. If both the champs retire that's 1.1 to 1.2 mill back in the cap add Cobbos money and some for Smoothy, Baker and Madden.
There has even been a suggestion that Pezet could get a loan deal to play NRL while Munster is still in front of him.

Defend hard, solid kicking game and occasional run with the ball are the 3 best, key ways to introduce a young 7 into first grade. Cleary did those 3 things almost exclusively and nothing else for his first few seasons (and it's still all he does at Origin level). Sam Walker is the notable exception.

Instead of bringing in someone with a known ceiling to block up the 7 jersey, I'd rather bring in whoever our best young first receiver prospect is and just simplify their role to those few things. Not only is it what the team needs, but it is the best way to ensure we develop our bright young half.

BUT, I agree that someone like Croft is all you'd need in that halfback jersey... just way too many lingering scars from the Seibold days for it to be Brodie. He probably still wakes up in cold sweats thinking about that 2020 season, with sleep paralysis demon Darius Boyd having a gender reveal at the foot of his bed.

Someone really needs to take ChatGPT away from me.

We won a comp with Shane Perry at 7, and our attack looked better with an aging Ben hunt at 7 than with Reynolds. Agree with the previous comments that all we need is someone who has a solid kicking game, half decent in defence and enough of a voice to get people into position. Ezra and Walsh can create enough points.
