Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

wouldnt mind having a chat to kaiden lahrs see if he is keen on a move south for a year or two or depending on what cobbo shows this year he could be the perfect buy for the new interchange system can play anywhere on the edge and through the middle in a pinch

Could be a knee jerk reaction from Souths for losing Keoa? He is on less money and surely would have been a better value for investment choice at his stage of career for them to keep him. Bennett couldn’t get a marquee over the line for the Dolphins so I don’t think he would be the reason this time around. It’s a puzzle.

Of course, Willison becomes a must keep now (he already was in my opinion) and while we have time to lock him up, we need to do so. He isn't Haas but he can definitely more than do the job and we already have him.

We also have Talty, Tawha, Jensen and Te Kura all off contract 2027 too, so time will tell which ones we want to keep. Jensen will be starting to be pretty old by then.

The jury is out on Te Kura, let's hope he has a break out year and that will alleviate some of the considerable pain of Haas leaving even though no one replaces Haas, the dude is an all time great halfway through his career. But we also have him until 2027.

In terms of middles, these are the guys that suddenly look good in this order:

2026:
1. Smith
2. Wong

2027:
1. Willison (re-sign, he's now priority number 1)
2. Leota (Man if we could get him, I'd be fist pumping all week)
3. Te Kura (assuming he has a break out year and this is obviously no certainty)
4. Flegler (assuming he comes back well and that is by no means guaranteed but would love to bring him home if he does)
5. Barnett
6. Fotuaika
7. Taumalolo (he can still do a job, particularly at prop)
8. Horsbrough
9. Hopgood
10. Max King (we'd be pretty desperate by this stage, dude is massively overrated but I wanted 10 names)

Oh don't worry about whatever the media says, this contract will, as always with Haas, be entirely about money.

After a bit more time reflecting, I honestly think this could end up in a positive for us. We need to remember we currently have Walsh on unders and have some good talent coming through with mariner, karapani, Willson etc.

We would always have need to have lost someone, and whilst Payne is an exceptional player, at the circa $1.2m mark I’d say he isn’t the best value for dollar output. Pat showed he is right up there with Payne with a great GF performance and is about $400k cheaper.

Losing Payne, along with Reynolds retiring means we should be able to keep everyone else we want to keep (within reason, Shibasaki may still go if Perth throw crazy money at him).

Depending how Ben Tekura goes this year, we may not need to recruit another big name forward as we have Willson, Carrigan and Jensen who are solid middles. If Te Kura doesn’t have a good year and show he can play decent minutes, then my first choice would be Lindsay Smith.

Getting Wong and Smith for about the same money we were paying Haas would soften the blow massively. Wong is a super talent on an edge, the rorters would be stupid to lose him with gus going (assuming reasonable money is involved)

How about this for the craziest idea ever...

Re-sign Cobbo to play lock and Patty moves into the front row.

Come at me.
