If so then for sure this is the best result for Brisbane and good luck to Souths.Lots of rumours doing the rounds on Reddit - so take this sparingly - that Payne and his management wanted a clause that would allow him to renegotiate the deal every 12 months. Broncos said no and souths said yes.
If there is any truth to the above then I'm glad that the Broncos didn't agree to the terms. I love Payno and appreciate everything that he's done for the club but renegotiating every twelve months would be an absolute cluster f**K to the Broncos salary cap.
It doesn't allow for future planning as the club is constantly in limbo waiting to see what Payne wants to do (or how much more money he wants). It also means that Payne and his management would forever be in the driver's seat regarding contract negotiations.
I wouldn't be surprised if his deal with Souths has several release clauses. Apparently he spent a lot of time in the Samoan camp talking about R360 - if that ever legitimately gets off the ground , then he is guaranteed gone.
