The extended bench means you can carry an extra big man and only use him if we need to, which will lessen the blow somewhat losing a prop with high work rate.

Dunno, I don’t think we expected to lose him.
I mean going forward after haas leaves, we don’t have to try & find a replacement for his work rate with only one player, the bench change gives us flexibility depending on how the games going.Nah, work him until his body is broken & when we make the GF, don't pick him. And when we win, don't buy him a ring.![]()
We’ve extended players past nov1 before, seems to be getting more common.Him not signing before Nov 1 was a sign he was on the way out.
I think Managers are more likely to wait and consider all offers these days then commit before Nov 1. Particularly with Bears and PNG lurking. I think clubs can try to do it before but players who are sought after will choose to wait before negotiating. We’ve extended players past nov1 before, seems to be getting more common.
I hope so. Maybe they decided if Payne goes we will hold out on a big replacement until 2028. There does not seem to be much around for 2027Our management seems to have it mostly together, you'd assume they are professional and as such would have had a hitlist for both retention and targets ready to go if this eventuality occurred. As has been mentioned, Haas has been looking out the door it seems since he got there 10 years ago.
I agree. If he goes I think the club will wait before working out what to do to replace himI don’t think we will be rushing into signing anyone just for the sake of it.
We can't replace Haas. He's the best prop in the world. For the next couple of years at least, any team that doesn't have Payne Haas in it is missing out.Today, I am less convinced we can replace Haas.
.Who knows what may happen during the 10 day cooling off period. Maybe we come back with a bigger one year offer that he takes? That may be easier than finding replacements before 2028. However, Payne may have decided to go regardless and its set in stone.
The great thing about this team is we don’t seem to miss anyone. We can't replace Haas. He's the best prop in the world. For the next couple of years at least, any team that doesn't have Payne Haas in it is missing out.
The good news is a starting middle pack of Jensen, Willison and Carrigan is still elite. I'd want us to find a prop who'll be good enough to start over Corey or X, but if we don't I'm not panicking. Of course if Te Kura has a corker this year we can just buy a QCup workhorse or upgrade a young guy like Allen.
