OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

What I’ve pieced together today with chats-Payne’s management said last week we’d be keen, Souths met with his manager Friday and put forward their offer, Payne spent Saturday having a think and said yes Sunday.

This same guy has had to think long and hard about every deal at Brisbane but made up his mind in 24 hours for Souths.

It sucks but at the end of the day X will step up to start with Jensen and someone else will come onto the bench and our salary cap will be where it should be... invested in the spine. Wouldn't mind Flegler coming back if he returns well from injury though! Dolphins have alot of props. Just keep Carrigan out of the front row!

EDIT: Not having his manager trying to constantly screw our cap can only be a good thing long term even if Haas is the best prop in the game.

Lol. Doesn’t sound like there is much planning going on from either party if that’s true. Apparently he was a Souths supporter as a kid along with his Dad, so there’s that.

How the hell are we in a rebuild when we have. Carrigan Walsh , staggs mam. Still with us ? These journos just make shit up ..
Yeah, with Willison stepping right into hass' shoes, a young fella taking his spot on the bench (whether this is ylte kura, semu, francis or other), and pezet stepping into reynolds. We should be ok.

Getting that transition planning like penrith and melbourne.

His parents are complete piles of shit but he would go to Souths because his Dad supported them just like how he decided to play for Samoa because of his Mum. 😂

Coward move for him to tell the boys via WhatsApp - pathetic
Fits in with the timeline provided from 1910. Might not have had a chance to meet the team in person. That would explain the most unusual nature of there being no leaks on the contract decision, it was literally a last minute decision.

Very true. I get the feeling that our club will panic here and offer something similar

Homer Simpson style negotiating. Offer the same contract with a 1 day deadline and see how it goes. Worth a try.

A consummate professional is how I would best describe Hass.

He has found a way to block out all the noise professionally, and personally. The man is a marvel. His 1% efforts in chasing down the Cleary field goal, is Hass. That man never gives up. Like Webcke, his first hit up is as hard as his last. His motor is beyond. A coaches dream.

What I won't miss is the businessman Hass. The Hass that is always trying to get a few more dollars, a clause in a contract that sows doubt, his inability to understand how his financial hunger bends the teams balance, planning, and cap. Hass is retention planners nightmare.

This contract circus around Hass, has been happening for a long time, and Souths are welcome to Hass, the businessman.

Payne Hass is the consummate professional, but I believe in his mind, it's a one man show.

Best of luck to him. Wish him well.

I have been concerned that we would lose X because of Hass. It is certainly not doom and gloom for us as we are making great decisions in our spine. The Pezet signing is succession.

Payne can't win a premiership on his back alone. Walsh tried to school him in that, but Payne was looking out the window at money trees.

It's hard to fathom the conversations in the media. It's like the end of our chances this year because of disruption and after Haas leaves we're no chance.

Pretty sure every premiership team prior to 2025 didn't have Payne Hass So it can be done.
The important thing is our spine is young and very good and its a lot easier to build and rebuild around a spine.

This saga has made the media completely forget about the existence of Reece Walsh in our team and Ezra mam hasn’t even been mentioned for months.

Do Filipino max security prison cells get Kayo these days?

Reminder that Riff lost JFH at a similar age to when we’ll be losing Haas (JFH isn’t on his level as a player, but when you take his leadership into account it’s probably as big a loss) and they’re still contenders

The Mam thing probably has more to due with all the ex Broncos players making the headlines for being naughty. The media tends to move on like that.
