Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Hi all

Have it on very good authority Starford Toa from the Tigers is very close to signing with you for next season on a 2 year deal. Madge is a big fan of him.

a decent depth signing. I doubt he makes our full strength side though

Reckon there’s a strong rumor that he is Garrick’s replacement at Manly from next year. Also, he might’ve that Kiwi connection with Foran 🤷‍♂️.

I haven't paid too much attention to Toa's defence, but I think he's been burnt a few times.

My bigger issue with Toa is that he plays like he thinks he's a Staggs style centre... basically a centre that wants to beat his opposite 1v1... but he's nowhere near that level of talent.

He'll often not throw the pass to his winger and instead try to get to the outside and score himself or draw in the winger and throw a flick pass to the winger under pressure.

He can kill a lot of opportunities or create errors instead of just taking the simple option... but he's had brief purple patches in his career where he has dominated opposite defenders.

Unfortunately the winger often ends up catching a cold outside him.

Surely Mariner is centre next year anyway and To'a (if we even signed him) would be back up.
Yeah I don't think To'a would be coming here as a starter... I think he's more suited to right side anyway.

A centre that wants to beat his man 1v1 is basically pigeon holed to one side of the field, and I'm pretty sure he has a right arm carry.

So in that sense left centre depth would be Mariner > Verhoeven, and right centre would be Staggs > Toa.

Rumour doing the rounds that Ezra is seeking a release. 99% sure it’s BS but tbh I wouldn’t be too disappointed if he left (and we don’t carry any freight). 850k could be spent better elsewhere and I’m not sure what life with him in the halves looks like after this year. It could well be a Duffy and Pezet 6/7. Billy could fix a gap there potentially too as backup.

kinda means releasing black doesn't look too great if that's the case.

Said it at the time we should never have released Coby. Although, reading the article over the weekend has me thinking he may have kicked the toys out of the cot.
He is stuck behind a decent 6 & 7 at the Raiders anyway. I actually do not understand why he went there other then getting a decent bump $

I think he probably would have stayed but said he was getting mixed messages. I guess if you were a qld under 19s halfback you would want there to be some sort of plan from the club on how you develop into a regular starter. Im actually more concerned that he was getting that from Kevy, and not from Madge.

Madge is seemingly addicted to signing nrl journeymen over developing internal talent. Mozer is another example. I wonder if he is feeling the same.

not really.

Lets assume Ezra does want a release, I personally doubt it, but for this scenario we'll assume he is gone.

Coby Black still wouldn't be first choice in the halves anyway. he'd have Pezet and Duffy ahead of him

Black is a game managing kicking halfback that plays on the right... Ezra is a running five eight that plays on the left.

They're not really the same player... outside of both being "halves"

And I think the running part or lack of is what put a shadow over him .
He was kicking and passing , but not being a running threat himself .

Kinda like Reyno . LOL .
