09/10 Football Thread

I found out something kinda cool tonight..that Im related to the guy who scored the first ever goal for the Socceroos in a full International :)

*sigh* Sometimes I wish I had just become a shallow glory hunter like you lot

*ducks for cover* :P

Seriously though, Chelsea are gonna win about 5 or 6-0 tonight, it sucks supporting Sunderland.

damn Inter! Bari had them on the ropes but they came back :S

Forza Internazionale!

haha, they are a great club, but when they play other Italian teams, then boo inter haha

Colombia will be saying goodbye this weekend to Rene Higuita, the colourful goalkeeper known as "El Loco" in a two-decade career.

Higuita returns to Pereira

Colombia President Alvaro Uribe, Diego Maradona, and Brazilian stars Ronaldo and Ronaldinho have been invited to Monday's (AEDT) testimonial match between a team of Colombia all-stars and top players from the 1990s of the Colombian club Atletico Nacional.

Higuita, 43, last played in 2008 for the Colombian team Deportivo Pereira.

Higuita was famous for his frizzy hair and daring moves in goal - some successful, some unsuccessful.

In the 1990 World Cup, he was playing the ball at his feet far out of the area when Roger Milla of Cameroon stripped him and scored, knocking Colombia out of the final 16.

In a friendly at Wembley Stadium against England, he turned a routine save into a spectacular play. Instead of catching the ball shot at the goal, he performed a modified scissors kick - later the move was called "The Scorpion" - to kick the ball overhead and keep it from going in.

Higuita also served some prison time.

He was imprisoned in 1993 for acting as a go-between in a kidnapping case. He received money for his services. This broke Colombian law, which prohibits profiting from kidnapping.

Higuita played for eight local teams, and four outside Colombia - Valladolid of Spain, Veracruz of Mexico, Aucas of Ecuador and Guaros of Venezuela.

bye Mr Higuita, I've had a lot of fun watching ur crazy antics

Did anyone hear what Chelsea FC defender John Terry did?

I am a huge Chelsea fanatic and I am proud to say it but I must admit I am deeply dissapointed with John Terry on this one. I have been a huge fan of him and the club for years but i am most dissapointed with him. I bow my head in shame [icon_non

Apparently before they split Wayne Bridge sent his missus a sculpture of his **** made from cadburys chocolate. She declined it saying she prefers Terrys.

hes a wanker. everyone knows it. hes also MASSIVELY overrated. I cant believe he is England captain. They already have a genuine superstar who captains liverpool. Fabio should do the right thing and sack this wanker and make a better captain as captain.

I do think Terry is overrated, but he is still a very good center half. Stripping him of the captaincy would be too disruptive to England IMO. I reckon this is just the obligatory attempt by the media to screw up Englands chances before a major tournament.

I think he's a dick, but he's a good defender alright.

Not stripping him of the captaincy could also prove disruptive IMO. I've heard there are factions forming, people taking sides. That could be an absolutely massive hindrance.

You just have to look at his history, he really shouldn't be the captain of a national team.

Bizzare that Hatchy is a Chelsea fan and hasn't posted in here until now. I bet he really is a huge fan though and knows all about them.

Got me a good one their Scotty. But actually I haven't posted because theres been nothing much to talk about in the football so far this season. Eg, no big signings. It's been a bit quiet in the EPL so far.
