2012's Biggest Flops.

Bennett was going to do great things. Premiership in year 1 guaranteed. Missed the 8. Flop.

AP....you did write that didn't you ??? That as far as I'm concerned is when you said WB was going to deliver a premiership or are you now saying that's not what you meant ??.....and it's hardly out of context.

Ari Gold...I did not say he can't have failed. We (this forum) do not have a uniform standard which defines which is and what is not a failure. It is a personal opinion as to the relative merits of a persons efforts. Therefore in APs eyes WB is a failure, I however do not share his belief. He is entitled to his opinion. I just don't think it carries much weight. Peoples opinions matter a great deal to AP, a point well demonstrated with his vociferous defence of his arguments and his unrelenting efforts to change others.

I think what others think of me is important, just not all important. love you wayne

sooooooooo they had 11 rep players. we're not debating what is and isnt a trial match or who is or isnt over the hill. 11 rep players. up there with the most of any team in the competion (actually the highest iirc).

thanks for the list. also add willy mason to the list.

Hoffman, Beale, Reed, Hodges, Wallace, Parker, Thaiday, Te'o, Glenn, Hannant, Civoniceva, McGuire, Gillett.

13. You wrong, I win.

And those are all actually current rep players except Wallace but don't try telling AP that because whether you are a current rep player compared to an old player way off playing rep footy or a guy that was dropped from rep footy years ago and has never looked likely to return doesn't matter because you played rep footy at some stage in your career makes you labelled a rep player throughout your career when people are talking about the CURRENT prospects and form of your team.

McManus is the perfect example he played one game for NSW and got absolutely towelled up and will never ever go close to playing SOO again, in what possible way could you use his 1 SOO a few years ago as an ongoing "rep status" for him, he is not rep quality, he barely was then and he certainly isn't close to it now.

Going by AP's logic, if you represented your primary school in footy, you're a rep player!

I played districts in grade 7. Finally some recognition for my hard work

Wooden spoon would indicate...... yes?

Also do not put City Country reps in your list because that is akin to a trial game.

I kinda feel like arguing this ......but I can't be frigged.

The NSW numptys consider it more than just a trial......mehh!

Which is why a number of them can't wait to pull out of the game and play for their club.

Soon we'll see All-Stars and Prime Minister XIII's used.

Now point out where I said that Bennett said he would win the premiership this year.

Is primary school footy recognized as a representative match by the NRL? If so then yes it makes you a rep player.

Hint: it's not.

I love that people have now turned to questioning what is and isn't NRL rep footy. It's easy - are players chosen to REPRESENT a team chosen from all the players in the league that meet the eligibility for that representative match? If yes, it's a rep match.

It doesn't matter if it's a pointless game like city vs country, it's a rep game. You won't find me saying how great city vs country is, that's besides the point. It IS a rep match, like it or not.

I honestly couldn't care less what other people on here think. I do have a good laugh at some of the opinions thrown around, and I do thoroughly enjoy ripping into others for their opinions that they can't back up with anything. Anyone that knows me in real life knows that I freaking love arguing, lots of the time just for the heck of it even if I couldn't give 2 sh*ts about the topic. If I know it's going to rile someone up good and proper ill argue even if i have to purposely argue something that's just plain stupid. I do it because it's fun, not because I care what you think lol. Believe me when I say that your opinion literally means nothing to me.

So BroncoMan is a rep player?

I find that in this day and age of the salary cap, all this talk of how many rep players a team has to be irrelevent as most teams end up with around a similar number of current and/or past rep players anyway due to the nature of the salary cap trying to even out the competition. Gone are the days when one team such as the broncos or canberra would be so stacked with class over the rest of the comp that they would contribute over 50% of rep teams.

And to bracket, say, a David Stagg who played what, 1 Origin game, and Darren Lockyer who played a thousand, simply as "rep players" is terribly misleading.

I feel like everyone is just belting AP reflexively. He's absolutely right in this instance. For the Knights to go backwards under Bennett is an enormous disappointment. A finals berth was the very minimum most were expecting from the side.

I don't agree that Bennett was the BIGGEST flop of the year, as the Warriors have performed far worse with similar expectations on them.

I don't think anyone denies the Knights struggled this year more than expected. Combination of factors, not the least the season ending injury to Gidley (I don't rate him, but he's a key part of their team regardless). Bennett himself would admit he didn't handle this year as well as he could've, and no doubt realises he has to work on a lot of areas in the offseason.

But AP has used it as a platform to continue his bizarre and relentless savaging of Wayne Bennett. It's pathetic.

Really....?

I thought that was one of the reasons given why the Broncs dropped off this year after SOO.

anyhoo.......

WB was bought by the Knights because they realised they needed a culture change regardless of where they finished the previous year.
The public expectations on the Knights were unrealistic because any coach needs time to sort out his players character and build a squad who they think can compete and have a crack at premiership.

As Compound Fracture said we don't know the internal goings on at the Knights but there were obviously some issues that needed to be sorted out.
If they can't build on this year then yes I would agree WB has underachieved but lets see how things work out before branding him a flop.

On a side note, anyone saying Bennett is trying to buy a premiership whilst being in total admiration of Bellamy needs a reality check.
