2014 Broncos Season

On Broncos TV, Hook is talking about Kahu as a first choice 5/8. Does anyone know if he even has the talent? Never seen him kick or even pass the ball I don't think? Wouldn't we be better off trying to develop Kahu as perhaps a Fullback with Hoffman on the wing if Barba is going to play 5/8?

His coach from Keebra park has said that while he could handle the 5/8 position, he is not a natural at it, but is one of the best fullbacks he has seen and could give us what Karmichael Hunt gave us from the back.

I know everyone is deadset against this, but i'd like to see how a spine of:

1. Kahu
6. Barba
7. Hunt
9. Macca

goes. i personally think Barba is capable of making a successful switch to the halves. (obviously if Milford comes next year, Barba stays at fullback and Milf plays 5/8)

FTR, Barba has played 8 NRL matches as starting 5/8 and has scored 5 tries (still a good strike rate)

Oates just had surgery he won't be back till into the season.

Oates had surgery just after he pulled out of the junior Australian squad when he was named which was about 2 months ago, an injury he was carrying while playing and if it was really serious they would have had him having it earlier, it's likely he will be there come round 1.

No it's not likely at all. At least a month in before he will be back.

Where do you get all this information 1910?

Where do you get all this information @1910?

Does it matter? I doubt very much that he (or she) can reveal their sources but I suspect they hold a position somewhere within the Broncos organisation, either way I'm extremely grateful for the info as not only is it always correct but they definitely don't have to do it.

Now that the ass-kissing is done with, I for one am glad that we won't be seeing Barba at 6 and we can now utilise him in his best position. No idea how Kahu will go, sounds like a bit of a gamble but we need to trust in the decision and give him a fair go and hopefully he proves any doubters wrong. If he fails then we can always bring through Strasser or one of those guys and no doubt it'll only be a stop-gap solution until Milford arrives in 2015.

Unless the other half outplays Hunt, who (lets not forget) has only had 3 good games in the halves, and still managed to drift in and out.

I'm more interested in the "Kahu will be 6" comment, I guess that settles it then.

1. Barba
2. Hoffman*
3. Reed
4. Copley**
5. Vidot**
6. Kahu
7. Hunt

* = If Hoffman stays
** = Pending Yow Yeh

This is true however I'm banking on Hunt improving from last year, especially now that he'll be given a full off-season to train in the position.

Looks like a pretty good line up to me.

Looking forward to the new season. Already have my membership and ready to yell at the refs poor calls. Again...

Must have been worse then first thought then considering it was a wrist injury.

For Hook's sake, I hope so. If it is indeed true, it is a big call for a coach under extreme pressure to go with a spine of Barba, Kahu, Hunt and McCullough. To be honest, it doesn't fill me with a whole lot of confidence, especially given that Kahu has shown very little in his appearances to date that suggests he has the qualities of a NRL quality number 6.

the alternative being? I personally think it's the right call. Barba needs to be fullback and lets face it, there's not a single standout for 5/8.

I'd like to think it should be someone who has played in the halves above schoolboy level. Besides, fullbacks and centres/wingers playing in the halves don't make it 99% of the time. Even someone like Hayne doesn't have the same impact there as in the backs, it doesn't usually transfer.

I don't even think the coaching staff would have a grip on who'll be five eigth at this stage - Kahu might be the idea right now but that could all change in a month or so.

On Kahu, out of all the first grade talent we've got, he's probably the best option alongside Barba. It's a bad circumstance to be in, but it's not like anyone is expecting him to be a long term option or deliver us a premiership either.

Personally, I'm hoping that Milford houdini's his way up here, failing that, hopefully Strasser has an awesome off-season and can put enough quality performances together to do a job for us.

You just named one. Hoffman, Barba, Hunt and McCullough is a better stop gap solution for a year than Barba, Kahu, Hunt and McCullough
