2014 Broncos Season

He posted a picture of his locker on instagram.

If Hoffman is staying, does this mean JYY will be Hodges centre replacement at the start of the season?

Id imagine vidot Hoffman copely and kahu would be the ones going for that spot

I hope they don't put Oates at Centre/Wing, he should come off the bench as an impact player in the backrow.

While I wholeheartedly agree, there's not a spot that I can find for him on the bench, with Granville, Kennedy, Glenn being certainties for the first 3 bench positions. Hala, Dodds, Lowrie, Stagg, Oates fighting for the 4th bench spot, I can't see Oates breaking the bench.

Don't play him in a position that could hamper his development, either play him on the bench or in the Queensland Cup.

I can see Oates playing on the wing to open the season tbh.

Hook will find a way to keep him in the Top 17, but I can't see him in the backrow to start off with when we have Gillett, Thaiday, Parker, Glenn, Stagg & Lowrie vying for spots.

I see Oates as a better option for a bench spot then Stag & Lorie, although reliable I thinks has more spark and could offer more to the team.

Potentially, but right now, he might not be ready for the forwards and we need as much help as we can get in the backs.

I'm not sure where they will play him but IMHO Oates is one of those guys you just have to find a spot for. He's a good honest footballer and will make a fist of any position

The only thing that I don't like about having Oates off the bench is that we already have Thaiday, Gillett and Glenn competing for big minutes on the edges. It would only leave us with one front rower on the bench too, assuming we also have a utility there.

Having said that, I'd really rather give actual backs a shot in the back line, and have Oates develop as a forward. Centre should be more about footwork and being able to draw and pass IMO.

When I think about it, maybe he should spend a few games at centre. He could learn how to step and offload well and then take it into his next position, which may make him a more effective & potent back rower.

Plus half a season to a full season in the backs will hardly hamper Oates' development.

Infact, there are probably just as many cons having him on the bench and only giving him a cameo appearance.

I have a feeling if he plays in the backs next year, they'll likely try to turn him into one.

We could do worse than Oates at centre. Gene Miles anyone?
