2014 Broncos Season

Mal Backs Jharal To Fly - Brisbane Broncos

Good to hear some encouragement from Mal but I think it will take some time for Jharal to get back to his 2011 level again if that happens. I don't think Mal's injuries can compare to Jharal's, Mal was already a veteran and a colossus for his club, state and country when his injuries happened while Jharal on the other hand had just played his first year if representative footy and was only in his 4th season while Mal was in his 10th year of top level footy.

Ofahengaue?

He'd play primarily through the middle you'd imagine - did spend a couple of games at centre last year for the 20s when they were desperate but he's better at carting it up through the middle.

That is of course you're referring to him and not some player with an 'insidery' nickname.

Joe was mentioned in a previous article about his performance post Christmas.

He got dropped last year and played for the Jets Colts. He played on the left, got himself back into form and is now going well.

Mal also had the benefit of wearing a guard that some viewed beneficial

Josh Hoffman looks really unhappy in his new profile picture on the broncos site

Mal broke his arm the first time against Manly in '87 then returned against Penrith and did it again then again twice in '88 v the Rest of the World. Meninga had only made his debut in '79.

sounds good though

Possible good news on the Hodges front, Corey Parker on an interview on talking sport was asked about Hodges likely return for 2014, he said Hodges is actually pretty confident he will be earlier then expected.

I hope Hodges takes his time to get it right. It'll give us an opportunity to try out guys for the final spots too.

Oates Heating Up For Second Season - Brisbane Broncos

Corey Oates thought he was hallucinating and he was back in the Central Queensland town of Baralaba working on the farm in oppressive conditions.

But no, this was Brisbane and the tough task that is NRL pre-season training.
The boom young rookie is in his second year training with the big boys and was put to the ultimate test when Brisbane went through a recent heatwave that tipped the mercury over 40 degrees.
Just like working on the farm back in the town he grew up in, some 150 kilometres south west of Rockhampton.
"There has been a bit of heat out there and it has taken a toll," said Oates, whose outstanding performance in the last nine games of 2013 earned him the club's Rookie of the Year award.
"It's been a bit of a struggle.
"It does get hot in Baralaba but those few days - I never thought it would get that hot here.
"It does take me back to Baralaba a bit."
Starting the year as a second rower for the Broncos under 20s - he also represented Queensland under 20s - Oates never expected to be playing NRL.
But some injuries in the backline and an amazing maturity saw him surprise opposition defences and net eight tries in those nine games.
He will be battling with the likes of Josh Hoffman, Dale Copley, Lachlan Maranta and new buys Daniel Vidot and Stewart Mills for an outside back spot when the season rolls around.
Oates has had off-season shoulder surgery but he knows expectation will be higher this time around.
"Where ever they need me," is his answer to where he wants to play in 2014.
"Last year wasn't too bad. I will be happy to play wherever, and I do like the outside backs a bit more.
"To fall across that (try) line as many times as I did is still a bit of a blur and I never thought it would happen.
"This year there is a lot more goal wise and I just want to get back into the side.
"I want to get over my injuries and play my best week in and week out."

He said he chatted with hook in the video and that's what they are aiming for in 2014
