2014 Broncos Season

He is still one of the best wingers we have. We've been really lacking in that department.

I'm going to go out on the limb and say that Broncos should try to get Winterstein back. He may not have been everyone's favourite, but he knew how to score a try. I think he has improved at the Cowboys.

I would love to get winterstein back. I was disappointed when he left and still think he's a great player

why are we worried about wingers when we have hoffman copley vidot oates and yow yeh competing for two wing spots (when hodges and reed are the starting centres). not to mention kahu if he doesnt play 6

No doubt we have bigger problems than wing, but that siad, your list of wingers looks less impressive when you consider yow yeh is unknown, hoffman remains a question mark if he will stay long term to play wing, oates is supposedly earmarked for the back row

We're fine for this year at the moment, and we can always recruit more.

Yeah, I'm not overly convinced with our wing stocks just yet but we'll see how Vidot, Copley, Mills and to a lesser extent Maranta perform before hitting the open market. The wing position isn't a difficult one to recruit for IMO, when a player like Simmons can be one of the best players, usually you can pick up a pretty handy stop-gap or up and coming rookie on the cheap if you go looking for them.

Either way, by 2015, hopefully Alick will be in the mix - the kid has potential.

Looks like the Sunshine Coast camp is more of a bonding session than a serious intensive training trip, which is interesting to say the least. Could be a way to get the boys to relax and bond together before they start really getting into the season - will be interesting to see what effect it has.

The bonding session is a great idea it's a great opportunity for the guys to get to know each other more and make them more understanding of each other. If I was coach I would have sessions like this mine would involve the players being broken up into groups and singing and dancing in front of the squad, get's you out of your comfort zone in a fun way.

I hope this is the team at the trial on Saturday.

1. Barba
2. Hoffman
3. Reed
4. Vidot
5. Yow Yeh
6. Strasser/Kahu (whichever one)
7. Hunt
8. Hannant
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Granville
15. Kennedy
16. Oates
17. Lowrie

More than likely it wouldn't be anywhere near that side, but I hope that's what it is. I think there would be a fair few stars in the side to help prepare for the 9's, though.

First trial, it won't have anywhere near that amount of likely 17 for season.

It depends who we send to the 9s which is also this weekend ... but since the first trial, i expect mainly fringe players plus kahu and Strasser will begin their fight for the 6

The 9's is next weekend mate. Feb 15 and 16

So I've done a bit of a write up below on the fox sports preseason special. I've tried to be as detailed as possible so that people that couldn't watch it can get a clear picture. Hope it's alright.

Started out with some interviews, Hook is up first.

Anthony Griffin
– Said a lot of the clichéd stuff but particularly said that Gillett, Macca and McGuire are all having great preseasons. When questioned about the captaincy change he said it was a tough call to make but reckons he can already see results. Said that he can already see the improvements in Sam with the weight of captaincy off his shoulders. When asked about the halves he basically said what we already know, that Hunt will be the halfback and kahu, strasser and nikorima will all be trialled and whoever performs the best will be the 6. A relief to hear that there was not a mention of barba for the halves.

Reed & Gillett
- They gave the bribie boys a bit of a quiz. Both are pretty funny blokes, bit of banter between them. I particularly liked this bit. When asked ‘who is the most capped Bronco reedy responds “Locky” and Gillett chastises him saying “Darren Lockyer mate!” (the following footage of locky kicking the winning field goal against the dragons brings a tear to the eye). Both guys look the fittest I have seen them.

Captain Corey
(love saying that)– Said how much the captaincy means to him and that there is a really good vibe around the squad. Was asked what kind of captain he is going to be and basically says the kind that will lead by his actions and ask the boys to follow him. Pretty clichéd stuff but good stuff IMO

‘A game to remember’
– Had a short segment featuring what they classed our most memorable game of 2013, the broncos v cowboys at suncorp. The footage just highlighted how much of a gun winger Hoffy is (if only he could realise that)

Captain Hodgo (love saying that too)
– Says the Achilles is coming along well and he is running already. When asked about the captaincy said he never thought about being a captain but when asked he was really honoured and is really looking forward to it. Says his leadership style will be passionate, will play hard and lead that way.

Joshy McGuire
– The opening footage features his halfback skills with that chip kick to Gillett (still makes me laugh). Says that he has gotten engaged and him and his partner are expecting a little girl. Says Marty Kennedy is fitting in really well and comments on how much bigger he is than the other props. Asked about Barba, says that he is fitting in well and that ben, hodgo, marmin and some other boys have a little crew. Says that they view top 4 as a very realistic goal for this year.

Alex Glenn & Jordan Kahu go shopping
- literally thats what they do, cos Lexi is a trendsetter. So they try on clothes for a while, Lexi’s accent is a crack up as always, it dead set sounds like he’s putting it on. Jordy is really focussing on getting the 6 but is happy for a place anywhere in the team. Lexi says that the change in training is noticeable but he is really enjoying it.

All in all no surprises really but in comparing this to what I remember from last years one the team seem a lot more settled. In all the footage pretty much everyone is looking super fit, they have leaned down where they should be lean which is a great change. Speaking of fitness, the panthers special has just started and Lamie Coward looks fat, he’s obviously been in a good pasture in the UK
