2014 Four Nations

You can't be eligible for QLD unless your allegiance is with Australia, so he would have had to pick. He was 18th man for QLD.

Then he switches to Samoa a week after playing for the PM's XIII.

How can he be eligible for Origin next year?

The 18th man thing was what I was half way through typing until I realised he'd played... PLAYED... in the Australian jersey. A week ago.

But it wasn't an Australian jersey. It was a PM XIII's jersey. If you are selected to play for the PM's XI in cricket it doesn't count as an ODI and if you were duel eligible then playing that match wouldn't affect your ability to play for say Australia and England. This, I'm quite sure, is the same scenario.

I've been having a look at the eligibility rules and I can't see how McGuire can play Origin next year.

If he plays a game for Samoa, he has elected to play for that country and cannot switch again until after the next World Cup or after 2 years, whichever is closer.

Now Guerra did play for Italy in 2013 and play for QLD the following year, but if I remember correctly, he chose Italy before the World Cup and therefore could change to Australia afterwards.

Honestly, there is so much confusion around these rules, it's hard to know exactly what they are. It needs to be cleared up.

The same rule won't apply for McGuire.

Did he actually switch back to Australia?

As far as I know, you have to in order to be eligible for Origin. He didn't play, but he was selected. But I'm not sure if the rule applies to selections, where you have to elect to play for Australia to be selected. They aren't very clear on that.

I can't find anything about it.

I know he knocked back the chance to play for Samoa earlier in the year because he wanted to play Origin.

Actually, it turns out McGuire switched his allegiance to Australia in 2011, but wasn't eligible to play for Australia that year.

So now that he has switched back to Samoa, surely that means he can't switch again for 2 years?

I give up on these rules.

If he can play for QLD next year, I'm glad. He has improved as a player this year and deserves a spot. Hopefully he takes McQueen's spot..

Anyway, now that Hayne is out, surely that means Inglis will be fullback. I wonder who will play at centre.

I think this will be the squad for the game against NZ.

1. Greg Inglis
2. Daniel Tupou
3. Michael Jennings
4. Dylan Walker
5. Josh Mansour
6. Daly Cherry-Evans
7. Cooper Cronk
8. Aaron Woods
9. Cameron Smith
10. Corey Parker
11. Ryan Hoffman
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Greg Bird

14. Robbie Farah
15. Josh Papalii
16. Boyd Cordner
17. David Klemmer

I think Tupou and Jennings will get the nod for the left centre/wing spot because of their club combination.

I think Mansour will be ahead of Johnston for the other wing spot.

I would be expecting the likes of Hunt, Scott, Johnston, Guerra, Jackson to come in the side for the game against Samoa.

Walker to centre.

1. Inglis
2. Tupou
3. Jennings
4. Walker
5. Johnston

Keep the Souths & Roosters combinations strong.

It all kicks off on Saturday, 4pm LIVE from Suncorp Stadium

England v Samoa will be on GEM from 3:55pm (Queensland Time)

While New Zealand vs Australia will kick off at 6:30pm on Channel 9 (Queensland Time)

Australia will be gunning for a record breaking 17 straight wins.

Teams should be named tomorrow.

Noticed RTS isn't in that New Zealand squad you have put up??

Wow, end of season fatigue? Bet you the club forced them to pull out.

Anyone else think all of these injuries to the Aus squad is a good thing? I've gotten the feeling lately that the squad is getting....stagnant. Like they do enough to win and then back right off. When was the last time we blew a team away? Minnow nations excluded of course. I'm excited to see what this squad can do.

It's good because it's forced Sheenius's hand a bit with selections. The squad has been pretty much the same since about 2010-11, sans Locky, with minor rotations in certain positions.

Cronk, Slater, Smith, Gallen, Bird, Lewis, Thaiday, Parker, Twatmough, JT, Scott, Jennings, Inglis, Hayne.

That's basically been the core of every Kangas team in the past 5 years.

Now only half those guys are there and we're seeing Guerra, Papa, Cordner (yuck), Mansour, Johnston, Jackson, Moylan, Hunt and Walker getting look-ins. It'll work out better in the long run, assuming those guys continue to play well and earn their spots, as all the incumbents are 27-30's+ so they won't be around for too much longer. But really when it comes to IRL I don't think anyone would be too concerned if we started losing to the Poms or Kiwis a bit more. Only if the next-tier-down teams like your Samoas/Fijis and PNGs started getting us when we're considered 'full strength'

What a terrible team. I hope we lose and Sheens gets sacked. How he couldn't keep the Tigers job but is the best man for the Australian job makes no sense. He put the players on notice during this 4 nations comp? Shouldn't they always be on notice? So disappointed with these selections.
