I'd have McGuire and Vaughan in the squad ahead of Klemmer and Nappa

Vaughan is unlucky in that he plays for you guys. It's one of those teams that selectors don't consider because they aren't on TV. He's definitely one of the better front rowers, on his way to being one of the best IMO.

As for McGuire, no idea how he didn't make it though.

The rep selectors are height supremacists.

Changes from the World Cup Squad...

Darius Boyd - Alex Johnston
Andrew Fifita - David Klemmer
Paul Gallen
Luke Lewis - Ryan Hoffman
Brett Morris - Josh Mansour
Josh Morris
Nate Myles
Matthew Scott
Billy Slater
James Tamou - Aaron Woods
Brent Tate - Dylan Walker
Johnathan Thurston - Ben Hunt

The rest don't really fit, way too many backrows and centres/wings.

Sione Matt Utai is definitely the worst selection though. I thought Alex Johnston would be ridiculous as he's in his first year. But even he played like 4 times as many games. Australian squad after 7 games....Sheens has to go, I'm going to be cheering against us for the greater long term good.

Inu played for the Kiwis after 1 game but Mata'utai's selection is just wierd. He is a talent but there are plenty of better players available. McGuire is unlucky but I can live with Klemmer.

Congrats Ben

It'll be interesting to see how we go against Brittanica. The Burgers + Graham vs our excuse for a front row.

McGuire must have sausaged Sheens wife.....only possible explanation IMO

I've no real issue with leaving McGuire out. I mean, I think we win regardless because the opposition is so inferior, but if you are picking a team seriously then a bigger body like Klemmer makes sense in a team that already has Woods and Parker to make 20 runs each per game.

That said, if I were picking a team seriously then Sam comes nowhere close to being in it.

Will he still be eligble for QLD next year?

I don't think he will be until after the next world cup or 4 years if I remember the eligibility criteria correctly.

****, I hope not. Surely he wouldn't be that stupid.

You can only switch allegiance once in between World Cups, I believe.

I recall Minichiello not being eligible for NSW in 2012 because he represented Italy at the end of 2011.

Seriously, I'll be pissed off at the QLD and Australia selectors if he can't play for QLD for the next 4 or whatever years. His lack of patience too, but he really did get jerked around.

3.3 A player who is eligible to play for more than one country shall be entitled to elect for which country he wishes to play. When a player plays a Senior International Match for a country, he is deemed to have elected to play for that country. Subject to Rule 3.5, once an election is made the player may not play Senior representative rugby league for any other country until the end of the next World Cup tournament, or the expiry of two years, whichever is earlier (“Election Period”).

3.4 After the expiry of an Election Period, the player may elect to play for another country if he is eligible, but once he so elects (or is deemed to elect by playing in a Senior International Match) he may not play for another country until the expiry of another Election Period.

3.5 During an Election Period, a player may change from one country to another for which he is eligible pursuant to Rule 3.1, with the approval of the Federation (but he may only change once in each Election Period).

tin foil hat time

Maybe Tim Sheens picked Klemmer over McGuire, hoping he would then play for Samoa and hence be inelligible to play for QLD

Klemmer plays like 20 minutes a game for the Dogs, he's nowhere near better than McGuire or even Paul Vaughn.

Mata'utia selection is just absurd. He's played 7 games and can't defend. Copley or Wighton or ANYONE ELSE.

I hope we lose so Sheens gets the flick. This team is bizarre - Ben Hunt however did thoroughly deserve his start.
