It’s on again - the Broncos’ prestigious end-of-season awards night ceremony and ball - with players, coaches, staff, sponsors, media, corporate partners and special guests to gather at Brisbane’s Convention Centre this Friday night.
You can stay up-to-date as this important club evening unfolds via our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat accounts - or of course, via our Broncos website.
Last year Corey Parker won the major award - the 2015 Paul Morgan Medal - as the Broncos’ Player of the Year joining his 2006 Premiership teammates Darren Lockyer and Petero Civoniceva as three-time winners, having previously won in 2009 and 2013.
Only fellow club legend and another retired team captain Allan Langer has won more with five Player of the Year honours.
Langer’s five club champion medals were in 1988, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. Lockyer won in 2002, 2003 and 2011 and Civoniceva in 2004, 2006 and 2007. The only other multiple award winner is Shane Webcke in 2001 and 2005.
The Paul Morgan Medal is named in honour of founding director and former chairman the late Paul Morgan.
It’s been a strong year for the club finishing 5[SUP]th[/SUP] on the NRL Ladder, reaching Week 2 of the NRL Finals Series and having no less than six players in the victorious Queensland Maroons Origin Side in Darius Boyd, Corey Oates, Matt Gillett, Sam Thaiday, Josh McGuire and Corey Parker – who all represented the Australian Kangaroos in the May ANZAC Test except Oates.
The Broncos also boasted four New Zealand Kiwi internationals in Adam Blair, Jordan Kahu, Alex Glenn and Kodi Nikorima for their pre-season England Tour.
The full awards on Friday evening are for our NRL and NYC U20s Teams’ Best Forward, Best Back, Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year, plus the Most Consistent first-grader.
There are also special awards for the: Rookie of the Year, Most Outstanding Play of the Year, XXXX Fans Player of the Year and finally Clubman of the Year.
This event will also farewell our 16-year one-club veteran and multi-award winning skipper Corey Parker, long-time centre warrior Jack Reed and our Gold Coast Titans-bound forward Jarrod Wallace – who all played in that epic 2015 NRL Grand Final last year.
Winger and fullback Lachlan Maranta will also be farewelled after five years at Red Hill where he finished off the 2015 NRL Season as the Broncos' highest try-scorer with 15 tries in just 20 matches.
Player Game Milestones will be acknowledged and Broncos Life Memberships will be bestowed on great servants of the club.
So stay tuned this Friday night and GOOD LUCK to all our players involved!
