2018 NRL Side

Smith absolutely could solve that problem because he's a tremendous leader. He gets people to buy in and follow.. he's all about culture, effort on effort, team first, synergy shit. He's a champion. Macca isn't Smith but I'd say he is the best hooker in the game for a team like ours if Smith was retired.

His also had Cooper Cronk to help communicating and directing players where they need to be on attacking sets in the opposition halves. McCullough has his flaws here but we went downhill when he got injured in this department. Milford, Hunt and Nikorima were all were guilty in 2017 of poor communication and direction deep in the oppositions half. Many of our attacking raids were killed off because the spine weren't handling the duties properly, poor decision making, lack of communication and direction especially for the forwards only makes the oppositions defensive job all the more easier. People were laying into McGuire for getting the ball so often in the last two tackles, if we had the 6,7 and 9 doing their job we wouldn't be seeing that happen.

Yeah I buy that. Why I believe Kev Walters has his work cut out for him.

According to fox sports Troy Dargan is a genuine contender for a spot in the #17 and if kodi fails to fire dont be surprised to see him in the 7
I never thought otherwise! I wrote some time back that this bloke was bought as more than backup, the thinking would likely be to keep real pressure on Knik. That said I know nothing at all about Dargan other than deducing that he has a real shot simply because WB wanted him.

According to some he has a very good kicking and organising game

I have a mate who is a mad Parra supporter, gets along to training sessions a bit and has a few connections. He's spewing Parra let him go, reckons he's the real deal. And I believe him.

JUST when Tom Opacic had finally put some NRL games together, he got hit with a double whammy.

But after waiting a year he may now have the chance to grab the Broncos' centre spot he wants so much.

In 2016 he looked like he had finally broken through, playing eight of the Broncos' last nine games in the centres.

That included a semi-final against the Cowboys.

But in that match things came apart.

After carrying a shoulder injury into the game, he then injured his opposite joint.

Amazingly, Opacic had to go through two shoulder reconstructions straight after the season.

It delayed his start to last year, and coupled with the good form of new recruit Tautau Moga, he never got a look in during 2017, finishing the year with Redcliffe.

"It is a bit better this year - I have had a great off-season, had a bit of a break and am now right back into it," said Opacic after he returned to training today.

"It was a massive difference (missing the whole pre-season).

"Pre-season is your whole preparation for the season and I really had none of that last year.

"It wasn't much to work on for the season - it killed my season getting the two shoulders reconstructed.

"I got back around round six or seven and then had a couple of ankle injuries - it pretty much wasted the season."

But now 23-year-old Opacic can spot a chance to get his name back in the side.

With Moga moved on to the Knights, and new recruit Jack Bird unlikely to be ready for round one, the Broncos will need an outside back when the competition starts.

"There is definitely an opportunity there," he said.

"That's what I do out here at training - get myself as fit as I can, get ready to play well in the trials and give myself the best chance I can.

"After having that taste of it (in 2016), it makes you more hungry."
Anyone think this guy could take Oates's wing spot if Oates moves into the forwards?
From what I remember he'd go alright.

Isn't he slower than jack reed?

Well if we are missing milf for the first round we could see dargan in the 7 and kodi in the 6 if he kills it can you take it off him when milf comes back in

Wasn’t one of the problems he had last year the fact that he was being played out of position on the wing? He’s not fast or a skilful finisher. But he is a decent link man, can set up his outside man and is an excellent defender when he has the use of at least one viable shoulder.

I dont think so, although he could do a pretty decent job there. He is in pole position for the center spot anyway. He has lost a few kgs from what he was last season and is a bit sharper as a result.

Just saw a shot of jack bird on the news. He looks like he's been endulging over Xmas.

Should give him a run in a hb during the trials and see how he goes

Troy Dargan is the 1eyedEel forums Ash Taylor. Bloke is the best half coming through one day, can't do anything the next. Looks like a lot of them had him slated as their future halfback though so he might be in the running if Nikorima has a bad start
I agree
