Although I do remember following Barba on instagram when he first signed with us and he was posting photos of king size cherry ripes.

The coaching staff were already trying to beef him up and he was eating choccies all pre season

Was that before or after they injected the syringe of extra sugar into the chocolate bars to speed up the progress?

Someone needs to photoshop a picture of griffin as willy wonka.

I’d have the following before Macca:

Smith
Friend
Peats
Farrah
Brailey
Hodgson
Granville
Luke
Koroisau

I’ll tell you this much, BRISBANE won’t win a premiership with Macca at Hooker. When is the last time a side won a premiership win a Hooker who the the best you could say about them is that they can tackle. Let’s see...Smith, no. Ennis, no. Granville, no. Luke, no. Friend, no....

Christ he has had 9 years of first grade to become the bog average player that he is.

I’ll double down as well, Macca won’t play Origin.

Hell just for fun, Macca won’t be playing for BRISBANE in 5 years time.
Seriously? Friend never runs with the ball and is very hot and cold. Peats can be good or he can be extremely average, since playing for the titans, mainly average. Farrah is a self obsessed wanker who makes everyone hate him (if he was so good then why were Tigers and Rabbitohs so crap?, Brailey has hardly played any games and i don't think has played 80 minutes ever. He has potential but at this stage definitely wouldn't want him over maccas. Granville misses sooo many crucial tackles and is extremely lazy in defence. Has lost his impact since becoming a starting hooker, and also isn't able to play 80. Isaac Luke was great before going to the warriors, but has a terrible attitude and can often go missing in games if he gets upset. Koroisau is similar to granville. More of an attacking hooker with average defence and is very inconsistent.

If you look at Smith, He isn't the best defensive hooker, or got the most "spark" but he is within the top 2 or 3 for every fascet of the game and is a great leader. I see Macca as similar to that, except perhaps in the top 5 for everything, and you can see how much he tightens up our defence and attack by just seeing how badly we suffered without him last year, even having experienced players like Benji, Nikorima and Hunt trying to fill the void.

Also, people saying Hodgson is really good. On his day, yes. But if you watch him he's actually very predictable. about 80% of his passes are to the left. Even on a short side he seems to pass left. Makes me think he genuinely doesn't know how to pass to the right. I remember one of the Raiders games last year I had some people over watching it and one of them is an avid raiders fan (has been for at least my whole life), and even he began to realise it as the game went on. From memory Hodgson threw 2 or 3 forward passes that game (about 50, but 2 or 3 were picked up from the Ref) and all of those were when he was passing right out of dummyhalf. I know all players have a preference, but if you watch it really is odd. Several times he will pass left to someone like Wighton, Austin or Sezer and they would pass it straight back right lol.

Why were the Tigers and Rabbitohs so crap? Well for starters the Tigers had one of the worst rosters in the league and a clueless head coach. The Rabbitohs problem was their gameplan. They kept dishing out the same gameplan that won them the premiership in 2014 but they just didn't have the roster for it anymore.

Cameron Smith himself couldn't solve those problems.

Brailey has actually played 80 minutes a handful of times, a dozen times. A couple of other times playing 75-76 minutes.

Tigers were a basket case but that wasn't solely because of the coach, a lot of the big name players didn't aim up and actually created friction within and making the coach the scapegoat which was done to please those players. Once the coach was dismissed those same players went running to other clubs.

Smith is the best defensive hooker in the world hands down.

He's a smart player too, rarely misses an opportunity and makes the right decision 9 times out of 10. This coupled with his fitness and skills puts him miles in front of anyone else in his position.
Macca lacks the ability to read the game as well as Smith... I don't know how many times we are in an attacking position with space and numbers on one side and he goes the other or dummies and goes himself!

That's the problem isn't it with Macca, his service is always going to be slow but he seems to premeditate a lot instead of reading the situation. That said, he did seem to be improving in that regards last season.

Macca would look much better if 75% of his game plan over his career was to pass or kick to Cronk. As would Michael Lichaa though

JUST when Tom Opacic had finally put some NRL games together, he got hit with a double whammy.

But after waiting a year he may now have the chance to grab the Broncos' centre spot he wants so much.

In 2016 he looked like he had finally broken through, playing eight of the Broncos' last nine games in the centres.

That included a semi-final against the Cowboys.

But in that match things came apart.

After carrying a shoulder injury into the game, he then injured his opposite joint.

Amazingly, Opacic had to go through two shoulder reconstructions straight after the season.

It delayed his start to last year, and coupled with the good form of new recruit Tautau Moga, he never got a look in during 2017, finishing the year with Redcliffe.

"It is a bit better this year - I have had a great off-season, had a bit of a break and am now right back into it," said Opacic after he returned to training today.

"It was a massive difference (missing the whole pre-season).

"Pre-season is your whole preparation for the season and I really had none of that last year.

"It wasn't much to work on for the season - it killed my season getting the two shoulders reconstructed.

"I got back around round six or seven and then had a couple of ankle injuries - it pretty much wasted the season."

But now 23-year-old Opacic can spot a chance to get his name back in the side.

With Moga moved on to the Knights, and new recruit Jack Bird unlikely to be ready for round one, the Broncos will need an outside back when the competition starts.

"There is definitely an opportunity there," he said.

"That's what I do out here at training - get myself as fit as I can, get ready to play well in the trials and give myself the best chance I can.

"After having that taste of it (in 2016), it makes you more hungry."

Smith absolutely could solve that problem because he's a tremendous leader. He gets people to buy in and follow.. he's all about culture, effort on effort, team first, synergy shit. He's a champion. Macca isn't Smith but I'd say he is the best hooker in the game for a team like ours if Smith was retired.
