2018 NRL Side

you don't need to be the biggest guy in the world, if you change your tackling style to hit and stick instead of that arm grabbing WWE shit
Hit and stick like Hunt was doing all year??? A prop would make contact push him back and hit the deck ready for a play the ball.

Middle forwards these days aren't looking to bust through the line like second rowers... they're looking to create fast play the balls and generate momentum through the ruck.

Somehow Cam is able to actually hold up middle forwards when confronted one on one. He must have immense upper body strength

I'm not saying he can't tackle them I'm talking about needing a bit of size to at least attempt to control the ruck.

Wrestle is just as much in offense as it is defense. Forwards look to find their front and play the ball quickly creating immense speed through the ruck and huge momentum for the set

Bird seems pretty strong from what i've seen. He will have to adapt his game if he wants to play lock, but i think he can do it.

Yeah I 100% think he can be a great forward and think his game is suited to the forwards. He'll be an absolute weapon there unfortunately I feel the amount of rehab he will have to do this preseason is going to delay his transition there.

FWIW I want Bird at lock and think a way for it to happen is to have him defend on the edge with the second rower defending in the middle. This could happen with Gillett defending in the middle (I know he's proven on the edge) and Bird defending on his right edge.

Glenn looks a little undersized and Gillett has great front on technique and strength. We would severely miss Gillett's cover defence and try savers though.

The trial games are going to be interesting for us this year in a few aspects. Firstly if the likes of bird, Macca and even Milford aren’t fit it will be interesting who slots into those positions as they may also be required to slot in for the opening rounds. Also with our world cup players not even started their off season yet I’d imagine fitness levels won’t be brilliant come trials/opening rounds. We might not even get an insight into what our regular team will look like until round 5/6.

Was thinking that exact thing tonight watching the likes of Gillette busting his arse. He and moose have played all year. Backed up through origin. Other guys have started for next year and they're still working. ****

I'm a fan of Paul Green's tactics with middle forwards

2018

8. Matthew Scott
10. Jordan McLean
13. Jason Taumalolo

Bellamy has it right too

8. Jesse Bromwich
10. Sam Kasiano/Nelson Asofa Solomona
13. Dale Finucane

You need 3 props in the middle to dominate in the NRL

What's your point..?

He was also making great pcm's last year. Having some big hits in D and scoring plenty of tries for a prop.. he'll be another Blair but with more metres in him.

I like offa. I think you forget he's still in development. He could probably have finished the year better, but so could a few of them. Having said that, i'd expect more from him this year. It would be nice to see with an extended run in 1st grade, whether he has an offload to his game. He tends to play it safe (which may be the instruction for a new front rower, it seemed that way for alot of the new brigrade of forwards coming through).
