2019 Broncos Line-up

Oates is also quite inconsistent I feel. Has some games where he makes well over 200, but then others in the low 100s.

Because we have a fullback whos legs dont work and 2 small centres. Pretty embarrassing to lose by almost 200m a game to the roosters back 5...

Yet I'm pretty sure we beat the roosters twice last year........having said that, they did win the comp, so they're obviously doing something right.

One of our small centres also ran around Mitchell for one of the tries of the season........after being run over by Mitchell.........just goes to show that there are different ways of playing the game that can be successful. It's what makes teams unique and the competition interesting.

Maybe we should get Vidot back on the wing in place of Isaako?

...Sarcasm.

Sort of a misleading headline. Yes, I know it is not a lie but Matthew is not the Johns you usually think of when it comes to the Johns name.

Siebs seems to like travelling around to get the very best out of everyone, including himself. One of the things I love about working in a top of the field institute, they don't try and cut corners at every opportunity, they want to be the best and it inspires you to try and be your best too.

Matthew Johns has also done a lot of work coaching halves, including the Melbourne halves at one stage. He does know what he is doing.

Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold introduces ‘trainer of the week’ award
Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has found a new way to motivate his squad, introducing a “trainer of the week” award, with Brisbane’s young guns already dominating.
Last week monster forward Payne Haas was spotted at Red Hill training in the club’s playing jersey and this week halves Sean O’Sullivan and Cory Paix followed suit.
While the rest of the squad wear their regular training gear, Seibold’s “trainer of the week” gets to stand out in the coveted jersey.
New recruit Shaun Fensom applauded the initiative as another incentive for the next generation of Haas, O’Sullivan and Paix to wear the jersey every week in first grade.

“They’re our trainers of the week so they put in the most through the week,” Fensom said.
“Their numbers are the highest out of the whole team and their repeat efforts are up and above everyone else.
“They get to train in the Broncos jersey for that week because they earned it.
“It’s competition for everyone else in the side. You want to be wearing that jersey at training because that means you’ve put in the hard work and earned it.
“Competition is healthy for the side. The more competition we’ve got, the better we’re going to be.”

Sean O'Sullivan has also been impressing the new coach. (Peter Wallis)
It is not surprising Haas was one of the first to wear the jersey given the fitness he has shown in his return from shoulder surgery, including coming second in a time trial last November.
O’Sullivan and Paix’s acknowledgment this week is also a promising sign for Brisbane’s playmaking future and is keeping current halfback Kodi Nikorima on his toes.
The Kiwi international said it made him want to be the next one wearing the playing jersey at training.

Corey Paix is another great sign for Brisbane’s future. (Peter Wallis)
“To be one out of 30 or 40 odd players, it’s a good achievement,” Nikorima said.
“If you train hard, you reap the rewards. I haven’t worn the jersey yet but hopefully before the pre-season ends you’ll see me out there in the jersey.
“I’ve known Sean for a couple of years now. He’s actually good friends with my brother Jayden. It’s good to have him around. He’s like a little brother to myself as well.
“He’s a quality, quality player and there’s no doubt we’ll see him in a Broncos jersey this year.”

Imagine being back at school and your teacher gives you a badge to wear in front of the entire class.

It's good IF the players are rewarded with a spot in the 17 come round 1 where possible.

Otherwise it just becomes a meaningless gesture.

Milford Waiting On First Contact
Tue 15 Jan 2019, 05:22 PM
ANTHONY Milford says he feels ready to step out of the comfort zone with his repaired shoulder as the Broncos enter their final block of pre-season training.
Milford had his second off-season shoulder reconstruction in September after popping the joint in the final-round game against Manly.
He came back to pre-season early and has spent most of it running without any contact.
But that is set to change in the next few weeks as he targets a full return to training before the competition begins.
"The shoulder has been really good and I am really happy with the way it is going," he said.
"The way the physios are helping me out, and 'Dev' (performance head Paul Devlin) is really looking after me there.
"I have done a little bit of skills with the boys but with no contact.
"But over the next couple of weeks we will start ramping up the contact and lifting more weights to get it strong as I can.
"I am just excited and ready to go."
Milford said the Broncos were aware trial games and the season start was just over the horizon.
Trial matches will begin in mid-February, while the competition start is only eight weeks away on March 14.
"I am really enjoying the challenge that is ahead of us," he said.
"We have got one more block of pre-season training to go.
"So we have to all knuckle down and be the best we can be rolling into round one."

I kind of read it as an abstract way to reinspire pride in wearing our jersey, which is something most of us have been pissed off about over the past 6 or so years. I like AS’s initiative.

Seemed to work on Nikorima.
I bet Haas worked even harder than usual to make sure he was the first to wear it.

I like the trainer of the week award, I gave 1 out for trainer and player of the week for my under 6s team and that pushed them. Of course it could work for men at professional level.

What does that mean though? They are garunteed to start a game this coming season? What's a 'playing jersey'? Asking for myself.

They use the training data from the GPS. How many km you run, sprint, efforts and just observation. It's just that no secret- a Broncos' players jumper to wear while everyone else wears training gear.

They could have made it anything to stand out and be different, jumper was just the one he chose, that is what they're all aiming to wear and for this week you can wear one.

Broncos used to have Keith of the week- if you did something stupid and you had to wear this horrible pink shirt!

Basically all the new players in the squad are the best trainers

It's good that Paix is getting some recognition. Could have easily been overshadowed by the other halves

It's a good initiative based on actual facts not favouritism
