Mariner playing on the left edge today, Herbie's position, his position next year. Played right centre last week for some reason.

Already has a double in the first half, his speed is lethal and he looks more dangerous on the left. Cuts back on field with speed and footwork and blitzs.

Looking forward to seeing him around origin time, wonder if he might do so well he stays in the 17 somewhere. Even if he doesn't another season of Q Cup will have him super ready for '24.

Who do you think will be out in the backs during origin that will give him a run?

Cobbo. Walsh and Staggs maybe as well, Walsh very, very likely.
I forgot about Ponga’s situation. You might be right. Slater he been very coy when speaking about Walsh’s origin chances though. Great poker face if he is thinking Walsh will be his first choice without Ponga.

Even so, obviously Capewell goes to origin, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mariner finds his way on to the bench at worst. We need to give him a shot, he's levelled up and we need to see how much.

For origin, given we will lose Cobbo, Capewell, Haas and Carrigan + likely Walsh, we need to fill 4/5 spots and who knows if Oates will be fit. So I'd be going with:

1. Arthars
2. Oates (if fit)
3. Staggs
4. Farnworth
5. Mariner
6. Mam
7. Reynolds
8. Flegler
9. Walters
10. Jensen
11. Piakura (even though I am pretty sure Palasia will be picked here)
12. Riki
13. Hetherington

14. Paix
15. Taupau
16. Palasia
17. Willison

Not expecting a result means we can really focus on how have Piakura, Mariner and Willison progressed? All three are really important moving forward.

Flegler probably a pretty good chance too tbh.

He ended up with 4 tries.

He's really bashing the door down with his performances so far, I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps above Arthars if Arthars plays like last night too many times. He wasn't bad by any means but Mariner looks something special.

Herbie to wing?

It would be tempting for sure but I would think Cobbo would be first shot at left centre wouldn't you think?
Might as well let Mariner try the position he’s gunning for with Herbie leaving

Don't forget though, Cobbo is a LEFT centre.
But that's the other side of the field... he can't be coached to figure out he's meant to be somewhere else... we'll just end up with two right wingers FFS!!

Of course Carrigan will never leave, he's definitely the future captain of our club.
I've went through our clubs contracted player and made a short list of who I believe are the most important players to keep on our books. The rest of the team can be built around them
Walsh- I truely believe he's going to be an absolute star of the game.
Mam- He will be another star and will work perfectly with Walsh.
Mozzer- Yes we haven't seen him in 1st grade yet, but I have a good feeling he'll be our Cameron Smith.
Mariner- Again he's seen no 1st grade this year but again I believe he'll surpass both Herbie and Staggs in the centres.
Cobbo- He won't see much other position than the wing but he can be our Falou.
Haas- It was hard to put him in the list but he seems to be developing nicely. But unless he takes a decent contact for us and not want overs I have little problem with showing him the door.

Worry completely about our spine like Melbourne have done for years and we'll be a complete premiership force.
