Billy is our best 9, and Smoothy is our best 14. I think they both suit their current roles perfectly (it took us to a grandfinal).

Mozer is a couple of years away (will probably start to transition when Billy's next contract expires). Talk of starting him at 9 this year sounds like a Seibold strategy. Maybe we loan him out to the Tigers for a year like Melbourne did with Grant (or Warriors, given history). I think HG was 21 at the time?

Love Paix too (like I love all Broncos players), but he seems destined to be the long term backup.
Blake turns 20 in a couple of months. That's the age Ezra was when he scored a hat trick in the Grand Final.

He will play this year.

Yea I don't doubt he will (when we rest half the team in round 27 against Melbourne).

Given everyone's form and how we finished last year, I just don't see hm taking Walters or Smoothy's spot (unless they get injured or completely go backwards).

Have they given us storm in Rd 27 again??

Did they just copy paste our draw from last year?

We've got Sharks in Rd 14 after origin
NZ in NZ around origin time
Dogs after origin finishes

He can offer more in attack than Bill or Tyson .
I didn`t get it until last weekend . I saw things that neither of the other 2 do .

Billy has got the edge with his defence and never take a backward step attitude . Smoothy is the one who needs to look over his shoulder .

It does seem that way. Although it worked out ok for us last year :)

I actually though Smoothy played the best from the 4 hookers on the weekend.

I don't deny the kid is good, but there have been a lot of players who were the 'next big thing' which we threw into first grade way too early. I'm just not a fan of messing too much with a grand final combination when there's really no reason to yet.

Anyway, I think Kevvie has shown he knows best with these things. He has seemed to make all the right choices with selections so far :)

Just seems ridiculous that the NRL would go that way again, because of what happened last year.

Isn't broncos vs storm meant to be a rivalry and a big game that the NRL like to hype??

Storm despite dominating the comp for like 15yr still aren't a drawcard for ratings, and this is like one of the only games that gets interest for them all year.

Putting it in the last round last year turned a possible blockbuster game into a reserve grade match in prime time... yet they're doubling down with it again...

Just add this to the list of how fucking stupid the NRL are ... and possibly lazy given how much copy paste has come from last year's draw

So I got curious and compared last years draw to 2024. Pretty similar finish (last 5 rounds) to 2023.

Byes work well for us, and only play 1 team coming off their own bye this year.... but its the Storm... in Melbourne...

How good is it looking through that draw & not really fear any team!
Can't wait to see how we go in the first 5 rounds.

We've actually seen 5 legit hooker candidates in the trials. If all goes according to plan our spine is heading towards this in a couple of years:

1. Walsh
6. Mam
7. Black
9. Mozer
14. Bukowski

Despite not seeing anything much from bukowski, he's built like a hooker which is good to see so early.

No Smoothy, no Madden?

I don't know either way to be honest. 2 years is a long time in the NRL. Maybe Reynolds will go into 2026 ;)

It'd be awesome if that turns out, and I think it will with patience... But let them earn it... 2020.. 2020... 2020......

Two might be optimistic. I expect Smoothy and Paix will have both jumped ship by 2026. Billy and Reyno will have retired. I think Walsh and Mam will still be with us. Mam wants to move to 7, but that's yet to be seen, and maybe unnecessary if Black matures quickly. I don't know about Madden. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves as well, maybe after being the interim half post Reyno.

Personally I can see some club like the dragons or bulldogs offering black some bs money on potential and him taking it

Always the risk when you have so many good players. Wouldn't be surprised if we have to lose Staggs or Cobbo in 2026, either.

Yeah. I agree. Can't afford both of those guys on the money they are probably worth. We really lost a heap of value this year, more than any other team has in the comp. The Panthers have controlled their bleeding of stars pretty well whereas we just seem to get raped

I think a club will offer cobbo 1 mil plus and fullback position, so it may be hard to retain him.
