2024 NRL General Discussion Thread

So what about in game kicking? Sometimes the fullback is bringing it back 30-50m if a team is pinned down one end of the field and long kicking out of trouble. Is this also a no go?

The kick off and pinning the opposition prop in the 10 metre zone has become a situation where too many guys are getting concussion . Leaving the NRL open to more litigation . And wrecking games in the 1st seconds by losing a player .

I saw Trent Robinson calling for no change , but getting much harder on high contact at kick offs and sending guys off . He thinks that will force technique change .

I'd be driving it as hard as I could low and towards the 35m on either sideline get to start the set with a set d line

Bring back some of the Paramatta kick offs from the 80s .
Big Jack and Sterlo had some creative versions .

Absolute reactionary morons running this game.
IMO, they’re going to constantly be making changes like this so they have a defence when concussion litigation inevitably hits. We’ll probably see the 10m reduced soon enough (already has been for Penrith and the storm) and players being sent off for any form of high contact

With the new kick off rules they’ve established the 20m zone as being the new dead in goal so they’ll just implement that for in game kicking: the in goal will extend to the 20

Edit: or if the FB catches on the full they can call a mark like afl and wait for their team to get back on side
^ lol already seen this suggested itt

Do that and we might as well just rename the game to Rugby Union, because the transition will be completed if that happens

I seen union was looking at Cleary to join them, I would be extremely happy to see him leave and for Penrith Panthers to come crashing down.
And imagine the salt from NSW and Sydney in general... Cleary is what they cling to for origin wins.

Didn’t they just win without him?
With half of Qld's forward pack out though.

I'm talking more about the media reaction... they'd be using their influence to try and get NRL to step in and not allow this to happen.

Imagine the difference between reporting if union were offering Ponga or Reece $2m per year to jump vs offering Cleary $2m per year.

One would be "oh well that's disappointing, but NRL finds new stars every year".. whereas if the NSW golden boy was getting targeted instead they'd be calling for the NRL to step in and sign him up as a marquee player or something.

Cleary has won 4 comps in a row but he's not even all that marketable compared to Reece.... NSW keep trying to interview him and stuff but he's boring as bat shit and no matter how hard they try they cant get him seen by the public as "one of the boys" like they have with Cheese, Munster, etc.
