2024 pre-season discussion: Pre-season Premiers

Literal interpretation is the Broncos refused release.
But the owner remained a bit complimentary about the whole thing... maybe a transfer in 2025 on the cards instead

He's contracted for 2025 as well. Two years is a long time in Rugby League.

Yes transfer as in a release and early transfer i.e. what Leigh were after this year.... if he wasn't under contract there would be no need for a transfer at all, because Sailor can sign for whoever he wants at that point

Either way the wording from the owner is complimentary and would appear he's not looking to burn bridges.. that might be for a Sailor transfer in the future or to just keep the relationship amicable

I wonder if the broncos enquired/pushed for a player trade in order to release?

Probably reading too much into it, but the owner did mention NRL wanting SL players too.

Seems the issue with Sailor's availability is to do with the overseas quota. They can only sign so many overseas players and Leigh Leopards have quite a few already signed. Reports say they would need to vacate one in order to sign Sailor.

Says here Brenko's move is off as well, even though St Helens and Salford have quota spots vacant:

Wasn't there also something about NRL players needing to play a certain amount of games to be eligible for a move to ESL or something?

Brenko barely played last year which may be going against him

Yeah there's two categories to qualify.

The main category being that players must have played 50% of NRL matches in the qualifying period of 2022/2023. Sailor only played 4 and wasn't under contract in 2022.

The secondary category is specifically for players 25 or under. They need to play 25% of their NRL club's matches including play-offs for the current season. Sailor still fails to meet that criteria.

Clubs can still apply for dispensation and if the reports are correct then that was successful because there were reports that Sailor had been approved for a visa.

Dunno if SmokinJo on Twitter is the same as our stealthy SmokinJoe (maybe it is?) but I’m loving his trolling of Panthers fans on Twitter lately.

We are just on 5 weeks from trial 1, that's pretty cool. Of course it is unlikely anyone of note will be playing it but cool nonetheless.

And the best thing of all season - discussions about what actually is being seen on the screen as it is usually in freeze frame format or looking like it is from confidential files.
And I wouldn't have it any other way, it's a BRONCOSHQ tradition!

Different person.
