Good news for the future can see him being rep level in the future, I think he has a higher ceiling than any of our backrowers.

With Riki as well extended we are sorted for backrow now, Capewell should move to Lock at some point if they are actually thinking of moving patty to Prop, to rotate with Kobe.
 
1910 or Big Pete will provide more input, but I think he's been both sides in Qcup when he was with Norths and started playing a fair bit on the right at the backend of his stint.

Predominately coaches tend to use him down the left, but if they sense a weakness down the opposite side they'll shift him over. The game that comes to mind was against Souths in 2021. Milford had just been demoted by the Broncos and Gamble made it his mission to expose him.

So he just kept positioning Piakura off his hip and Piakura opened with an early double in what turned out to be a shoot out.

Gamble won a spot as the 18th man for Darwin, took a red eye to Carins where he makes this gutsy try-saving cover tackle and less than a week later he's giving the Titans curry after 'winning' a sin-bin in the Broncos biggest ever comeback.

Otherwise ever since I started watching him with Tweed, Piakura was primarily a left side player.

He seems a good young lad, with a great work ethic!!
His kick chase and pressure is as good as I’ve seen since the Peter Ryan days. Now if he could just iron blokes out like Ryan, Costigan etc… 😳

Yeah I felt like he was predominantly left side, but recall he was spending a fair bit of his last Qcup stint on the right at Norths... which I was a little annoyed about, because left side specialists are harder to come by than a right sided player.

Figured it was mostly tactical, because he looked a natural running lines and putting on shots from the left edge.

Good signs with Capewell winding down and Riki making his presence known as a right side kick chaser.

He also seems to appreciate the experience some of our older players bring to the team (which is needed over youthful enthusiasm sometimes).

Great times, I went to that game. I always found his best attack on the left and his worst defence on the right. Left for Queensland, Left for Australia, Left for Tweed, Left and right for Norths.

Souths defence is terrible and Gamble just zeroed in on that left hand side of Souths for the first 20 minutes.

Piakura great hole running, that is what he hasn't been doing the first three weeks but yesterday was terrific. I wanted him to follow Ahearn but Gamble was great for him yesterday.

Capewell off to the Warriors on three year deal ?
 
Yeah I can't see him not taking that, it seems like we have basically confirmed our backrow of Piakura and Riki now for next year.
 
I think it would be a terrible idea to allow Capewell to go to the Warriors. He brings a hard experienced edge in the back row. You can tell his will to win is high with him at times barking orders at people to do this or that or be here or there etc. We NEED that experience at least for 2024. We're still a young team. Capewell also runs a fantastic line which is deceptive and puts the defense in 2 minds when we run that block sweep play out to the left.

I personally don't think we should let him go. Re-sign him for 2024, give us 1 more year with his experience, teaching the young lads a few more things, instilling that professionalism into them etc. Then in 2025 he can go.

He's already signed with us for 24, Warriors want him early. I wouldn't be letting him go early.
 
Could be optimistic thinking but I reckon ezra has already re-signed.

There's no way in hell that the media wouldn't be putting out bs rumour articles about him going somewhere else if he wasn't. Then add in the articles about capewell and Walsh, completely skipping ezra. Them there's the pother 5/8ths having a lot of rumours about them (luai and dearden).

Have said previously I wouldn’t like to see him go, but it appears our friends across the ditch have also identified his value in mentoring the younger brigade. For that reason I would love him to stick around for another season.

However if it means ensuring the retention of Walsh or Mam then it’s a no brainer I’m afraid. Wish him goodby and good luck, he will always be a favourite of mine.
 
I'm just making this up, but this is how I see it:

1. Kurt has publicly said he wants to remain a "Bronco for life." I see no reason not to believe this. He left the top club in the league to join a basket case with an unproven coach. He was embraced as a leader from the start, and a key part of the "rebuild" phase.​

2. The "rebuild" phase is well and truly over, with the club now stable and merely needing to hone. Kurt's initial remit has been completed. He is now competing with younger players who are destined to replace him. Part of the honing phase is moving on from him and Adam Reynolds.​

3. While he still has a year left on his contract, the club will certainly have made him an offer or at least replied to his agent. Whatever offer that was it wasn't enough to secure him on the spot. That's understandable as his value to the club isn't what it was when they poached him from the Panthers. And that's because the club isn't what it was when they poached him from the Panthers.​

4. His position as a utility player who can cover both centre and forward is still unrivaled but questions have emerged over his defence, and he has been overlooked for Origin. His position as a culture and attitude leader, and vice captain, intrinsic to the rebuild has surely now been supplanted by Patty, and Payne in that order. Walsh, too, offers leadership roaming across his territory. It's not that he's unwanted or unneeded, but the team is no longer so desperately rudderless.​

5. Offer in hand, Kurt needs to see what else is out there. He will be more valuable to another club in rebuild phase. He has not only won a Grand Final with Penrith, turned in close to MOM performances in Origin at both centre and edge, but has taken Brisbane from the shithouse to the penthouse in only a couple of years. He owes Brisbane nothing. Mission accomplished.​

6. Flying to NZ, publicly dining with the Warriors coach, touring facilities and leaking that they want him immediately is either a strong bargaining tactic (walking away from the table) or he's been lowballed to the point where the negotiation has broken down. As outsiders it's impossible to tell the difference, but either interpretation checks out.​

The way I see it, this could go either way. Maybe he will follow Payne and settle for less money. But if I were him, I'd probably go for another club in rebuild. And that does indeed look like the Warriors.
 
I'd assume the 3yr contract for Capewell is including 2024, which would mean they're actually offering a 2yr deal and want him to get released for next year... realistically they're not allowed to offer anything for his contracted years, but that doesnt seem to matter at this point.

Looking at it that way it might be all about the 2nd year that warriors are offering, whereas we might be saying let's take it year by year.

The frustrating part of it all is that we definitely need Capewell this year as our edge depth is non-existent but we may not need him for 2025 onwards... outside of offering great depth.

The warriors offer may hinge on getting him next year as well, knowing that this year and next might be the last peak years for Capewell and they want to get their money's worth out of the deal.

Its frustrating to me, because it's putting pressure on us to release him when they're shouldn't be any, because he's under contract... all the media pressure nowadays to release a player as soon as they've signed elsewhere is shit.

I'd be fine if Capewell served out his last year and then moved onto his warriors deal, but will it actually play out that way
