2025 NRL General Discussion Thread

What the heck has happened to Brent Read? He has gone full idiot. He used to be respectable, now he's just a walking advertisement for try hard contrarian.

I just can't watch that show anymore. What's the peanut said this time? Contrarian is such a solid description btw.

Mahoney's shot shouldn't have been binned or result in a suspension because it is inconclusive he even got the player on the ground in the head. This sort of tackle should be fine unless he clearly gets him in the head.

It is telling that even Gordon Tallis, a guy who struggles to put a full sentence together, sounds like Einstein compared to Read. Gordie didn't even know what point he himself was making and that was more comprehensible than Read. The guy is about half a level up from Ritchie these days and that is purely because no one can be as bad as Ritchie. The fact Read is even almost in the conversation for worst journalist in the NRL world with a repeat annual winner, it tells you so much.

He was also arguing that the fine given to Papalli for touching the ref (patted him in the stomach) was sufficient ... That despite ever single other play to touch a ref has served a minimum of 1 week, even when the contact was because the ref was in the wrong position and got in the players way

That entire segment was so fucking stupid... I swear Gordie, Anasta and Read were arguing something completely different to Buzz for a long portion of it.

Gordie started going on about voluntary tackles and if you do it you should expect to get hit... and moron Buzz wasn't able to get across the point that it's not about the voluntary tackle it was about the contact with the head.

No one was able to get across the point of Reed having literally anywhere to target and yet he got him in the head.... it's not hard to understand why that should be punished hard under the current rules:
- Forceful contact - Yes
- No mitigating factors - Yes... bloke was prone on the ground

Read just kept pointing at the judiciary classing it as a grade 1... but didn't talk about how it was charged as a grade 1 "dangerous contact" (which is where crusher tackles, etc. live) and why wasn't it charged under the high tackle section of the code, which would've pushed it into the reckless grading and several weeks on the sideline.

Yeah that should've been a sin bin... I can't believe they didn't even compare it to the blocker one where he got sent off.

Started talking about "what did he say to the ref though"... it doesn't fucking matter what he said, because he went up and patted him straight after he had been penalised.... you can't fucking touch them at all.

It would be interesting to see what the penalty counts were after that incident.

Did that act intimidate / influence the ref's decision making from that point onwards, because canberra were getting penalised out of the game, and yet later on cows ended up with a player in the bin

I noticed other "journos" questioning why the delayed binnings weren't a thing over the weekend. Did I just imagine that that rule was only for trials?

What time in the game did it occur? We can check.

Actually I just checked. It does appear that after the incident recorded for Papalii, the Raiders then got a run of decisions their way and won the penalty / infringement count for the rest of the game fairly comfortably.

Yep was only being trialled during the preseason... which they spent whinging and moaning about the whole time.

4 weeks ago... "this is shit and is going to create a lot of controversial decisions"

Now... "why didn't they bring that stupid rule in??"

Lol... that right there is something that Fox, as a self described conduit to the people, would normally have picked up on... except they are so far up Ricky's ass that they couldn't see it from behind his teeth

I've read that Haas could be swapping representing Australia to Samoa. This is bullshit if they play origin then they should be first picked for Australia before going to a second tire side.

I don't mind it. Australia will never have a shortage of quality players, however the smaller nations will always struggle to be competitive if they fail to attract enough quality first graders.

Players like Haas choosing to play for Samoa helps to grow the game internationally and makes those end of year mickey mouse internationals just a little bit more interesting.

Time is coming when they no longer qualify for the Island nations anymore because their parents were born in Oz .
Might have to move it to grandparents to qualify .

I don't give a **** if they choose to represent their heritage but NO Origin. Make your choice and jog on.
Origin should always be a pathway to an Australian Jersey.
Apparently the only ones who support the idea of playing Origin then representing a different country were the NSWRL.
