2025 Pre-season discussion. Training the house down.

- Feeling a bit fresher than a few weeks ago
- Been training a long time now so everyone is keen to play footy
- The preseason has been much better for my combinations than coming in midseason last year
- When I was 20 I started with Maguire, he gave me my debut
- I'm in the picture for a starting spot and I'm working hard for it and I want to be ready to be picked if he wants me
Maguire is looking for someone who works hard and does their job
- I'm getting a bit older now and trying to lead through all the reps
- I knew what I was getting into with a Maguire preseason and so perhaps was more prepared than others but training is hard no matter wherever you go
- I'm off contract at the moment, haven't gone into them (sic) conversations yet
- There are only 4 second rowers in the squad (who is the fourth?)
- We are all competing against each other and competition for spots makes us play better
- Not sure where Brendan is at but he is training (question implied Piakura has been in rehab)
- I don't think about the rehab group and the size of it or not, that's the physio's job
- Thank you, been training hard and that's all I can do (this is basically summarising every answer he gave)

Thank you for your commentary Sproj Sproj 🙏🏻

It would be fun to see what Bukowski could bring though, yes I know it won't happen.
Promising kid, but I'd give him a bit longer in Cup.

But along these lines, why not take this opportunity to debut the other youngster, Black, even if just to give him a taste? We have the luxury of a world class utility now who can take the pressure off the halves. The spine roles are going to get real blurry this season.

9. Hunt
6. Black
7. Reynolds
14. Paix/Walters/Smoothy

Or you could say Billy is ahead of Tyson as he can play more than one position ?
He`s obviously gonna play hooker rnd1 . As there are only 2 hookers available .
Bukowski isn`t getting into 1st grade at the moment .

Impossible for any of us to call the hooker pecking order right now. Mozer looked a clear cut above all the other prospects in his short stints last season, but he was far from perfect in effort, particularly defence.

On paper, Billy should have seniority, and he can cover the halves if we're desperate (please, no), but that's not so important with the arrival of Hunt. And so can Paix, we just have no idea what he's like as a player these days. He stood out in the Cup enough to get the gong for his position. Like Smoothy previously. For what that's worth.

I'm hoping Paix will win the 14 in Mozer's absence, simply because it will mean Madge thinks he's an upgrade on Walters. And if he's an upgrade on our hooker of the last three years, it means the team will be upgraded, and that's what we need.

But if Madge picks Billy after watching him train all off season, we might not be in such great shape. We'll go forward with the status quo, which was pretty ordinary.

Conversely, if he doesn't pick Billy it's not going to look great for Kevvie. And I'm sure he's not petty enough to do that for any other reason but merit.

Mostly I'm just dissappointed Mozer will be out for at least the short term, and if he doesn't have surgery, he's going to be playing through pain. It's a real dampener on the start to the season.

Hey you're back! Kinda missed you 😆

Depends how you look into it.

Madden and Smoothy need another trial to show what they can do, whereas maybe Madge has seen enough from Mozer to give him 1 game straight into Round 1.

I think Paix would probably play if 100% this weekend, but I don't mind it.

I'd still rather these trials being used having players on the fringe a chance to show something rather than playing guaranteed first 17 players.

Yes match fitness is a thing, but if they are fit and firing at training, it'll come in due time. 1 trial against a non NRL standard team isn't going to suddenly make you match fit.
Seen ample of Madden. He'll kill it in the ESL.

Smoothy is a good solid backup who won't ever let us down, but is neither a creative playmaker, tactical kicker nor leading tacklebot. I wish him well in the ESL.

Oh well, Buzz said it, yeah ya got me :rofl
Lest we not forget Rothwell quietly called Madge first, back in August last year, so put away the cynicism and give full credit to the Buzz. He's our man on the inside until further notice:

I dunno man, I think most of us agree that Kev had some deficiencies when it came to coaching and systems...it's just the severity that's in question. Maybe he likes what he's seen from Billy within his structures. I'm pretty sure he was the guy that brought Billy to the Tigers as well, so there's a history there.

I agree that if he doesn't pick Billy it will be purely based on merit, not pettiness and Mozer being out sucks balls.

Welcome back as well.
