[2025 Trial] Broncos vs Bulldogs

I'm worried everyone (including myself) is getting way to excited in the way we played againt a crap Titans. Including the performance of some players.

Bulldogs will hopefully be a better test to see where we're at.
Dogs defence will be much harder to crack this week. The titans have been a turnstile team for the last 5 years now

I have no issues with Shib and Gos starting if our major issue is sorted, and that is defence. Piakura is almost certainly on the bench. Arthurs is still my pick for the wing, but maybe Mariner is an option for wing as well - if combinations work with these guys starting they Mariner needs to FORCE his way in, not just walk into the starting team

And anybody who criticises his father is not a real fan, i know. He already told us.

Well his Step Mum had a few words to say about it too .
Narelle called up tripple M and gave rhem a spray for critcising her Kevvie .

What`s the odds she called Red Hill more than once ?

Mariner will score just as many tries as Cobbo would at wing just with his speed, while Cobbo could do wonders with an experienced player next to him at centre.

Gotta get upfield into a position to score from .
That entails metres out of the red zone . Cobbo should be better at hard yards .

You can only go off what you have.

I don’t take much away from the titans game for 2 reasons, titans were terrible and most our starters weren’t playing.

The positive is that fringe players got through like 60 minutes with only 2 errors and 3 missed tackles. Despite being from multiple feeder clubs and all the interchanges - they looked well drilled and connected.

I don’t at all expect the whole season to be this simple.

So far we’ve seen how our fringe players go against a bad team and the answer is - pretty good. That’s the only take away so far.

Yea the lack of errors and missed tackles was nice. All those push-ups everytime someone dropped the ball at training seems to be paying off.

I'm really excited to see if Paix backs up last week and I am pretty confident he will. He has been more than made to earn this spot, he will not be taking it for granted and man, how good did he look last week. This is a step up in opposition, so if he can play like that again, he has that 9 jersey sewn up and it means that neither Mozer or Mam walk back into the side which is great, you want players to earn their spots back, especially Mam.
I think Mam comes straight back in, but the rest of the dominoes fall around Mozer's shoulder and Reynolds' legs.

I'm not so sure. Given Maguire is making Mariner and Piakura earn it, I suspect he will want Mam to have to show he wants it too and he will be pretty underdone when his suspension ends. Of course, injuries may curtail all of these plans.

Kev definitely opened the door for Billy, but from there Billy never stopped giving it his all. For me, that stood out last year. A lot of the players were just dropping their heads, and kicking stones and making everybody around them, even more miserable than what they already were.

Billy never did though. Credit where it’s due.
Billy only 1 opposition for he's spot and Walters chucked him in reserve grade to get rid of him. Madge has seen easily Paix is better and should be in the team.

One concern I have with Paix is also one of the massive positives that he brings, and it's about him picking his spots to call his own number at the try line.

A guy like Dani Levi brings plenty of attack to dummy half, can play pretty big minutes if needed and is just generally an NRL level hooker; however he has never been able to settle at an NRL team and coaches just don't seem to want him. It's similar with Seggy, where he was playing 80mins at hooker and creating points from the position, but moved around a lot.

These guys look like NRL quality hookers in a time when there is a dearth of genuine hookers across the league, but struggle to get a gig.

But they get white line fever and it ends up seeing them play way outside the structure ... Levi way more than Seggy tbf.... I remember a set of six from Levi maybe at Newcastle where he ran crash plays on 4 out of 5 tackles close to the line. He just refused to give it to the halves and was trying to do it all himself by manufacturing a try that wasn't there.

It's almost becoming a trait that Paix will go himself when he gets close to the line. In recent times his efficiency from doing it would be quite high... but if he ends up being our number 1 hooker, then teams will be seeing him week in week out, and going himself will be the known rather than a surprise tactic.

I'm hoping that him going for tries so often in recent times has been a bit of hero ball, where he's trying to put himself on the map to get back into the NRL... and now that he's seemingly back he will be selective with it.

It's not a massive concern, and I have been vocal about getting attack from our dummy half when we get inside the 10m line, so I'm here for it, but on the flipside we have Reyno, Bhunt and Walsh waiting in the backline, so he needs to ensure he's getting them the ball when they want it.

As long as he sometimes passes it, he will create uncertainty, bunch the defence and open up gaps wider. If he makes a habit of Farnworthing it, he's liable to get the same punishment as Herbie: a Dally M.

For what it's worth, one of his tries on the weekend was in support.

He was in support because he went a crash ball to Jensen.

Jensen wouldn't be my first target for a crash ball, which is kind of my concern... however I'm hoping it was more about his vision and knowing Jensen was going to be 1v1 on the goal line, which would be an automatic trigger to go for it... even then Jensen should be getting there himself 1v1 on the try line.

Have to take what the defence is giving you... if they're not respecting the ptb on the 5m line then Paix can go all day... it comes down to if he's seeing something that's not there and wasting opportunities for the backline.

As you say an attacking threat at dummy half forces the defence to respect him and be closer to the ball, which opens things up for the backline... it's something we've been terrible at for years now... even going back to the Macca days. I don't think it's helped by the middles not running good lines or running with intent to receive and score.

It's an absolute crime that Haas is so low on tries.... he should be one of our most dangerous players close to the line.

Nelson is for storm, Tino was for them when he was there... Stefano probably will be for them this year.

Storm middles are a fucking threat close to the line... who could forget Wishart scoring off a crash ball last year... they can make anyone a threat that close to the line.

It makes backline moves look like a training run, because the middles have to be respected and you have to number up on them.

Yet Haas is zero threat at all down there... unless he gets himself into dummy half.
