2026 NRL Player Movements & Rumours

Im pretty sure I heard that the tax implications will be calculated when determining their cap. The won’t actually be able to pay players more than the rest of the comp due to tax differences.

The same way the warriors cap
Isn’t different relative to Australian teams just because it’s in New Zealand dollars

I was worried when Luai went off in the 23 GF, because the handbrake was gone.

We were leading at the time too, and we all know what happened from there

He’s also played in the Tigers only losses this year, albeit that’s a small sample size, but still an indication of things.

Dude is overrated as hell
If Luai stays on the field we win that game.

False.

Players also have to pay accomodation based on the standard rate to rent a similar apartment in Sydney. But relative to tax free dollars and the fact that you are paying to live at home anyway it doesn't change anything, it just reassures that PNG don't get a further advantage.

I think the tax free rule is honestly ****ing ludicrous. If you don't have a business case that is viable without it, I'm sorry you don't belong in the NRL. It's a joke of a competition that you have one team being propped up by two governments and in effect nearly double the salary cap. Not to mention the living standards players will face in that country and I'm not even saying it from the perspective of it being a shit hole. They have a nice little compound, but you won't be able to move anywhere should you leave that as you will eb swamped with the people of PNG.

I think the concept of a PNG team is so cool but at the same time it can't be at the expense of the integrity of your competition. NRL have just seen the shitload of cash that comes with entering that market as well as the government $$$ and will do anything to make the franchise successful there.

Not to mention this is all happening whilst the Perth Bears are going to struggle to get up and running, with next to no league support in the area, no grassroots, and no pathways. Not to mention they are far away from players and staffs families (further than PNG and NZ).

I think Perth was the right decision but to try and bring them into the comp at essentially the same time as a team that's being pumped with infinite amount of resources and salary cap dispensations to be a viable and competitive club is a joke.

Another Brisbane team and Wellington team I believe made more sense than PNG. NRL need to chill out on the expansion front for 5-10 years now. Just let the 3 that are here do there thing and then introduce down in Wellington.

But yeah this is a major disservice to Perth. If you are a marquee player, you are going to get an offer from both Perth and PNG. Moving to either is much of a muchness when it comes to how far you will be away from home. On top of that, you are being coached by Peters or Meninga.

So:
PNG can offer WAY more money with probably free housing and no tax
PNG offers a WAY better coach
PNG is not much different in terms of travel really to Perth and no doubt the PNG government or Australian government will make these free or super cheap as well

Perth is being set up to fail here.

Perth has a western culture and you can walk the streets freely .
Moresby has a 3rd world culture and is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. And NRL players need body guards to go out in public .

PNG - more money but potential mental health issues and partners unwilling to move there .
Perth - less money , better lifestyle , partners more likely to come to Perth . .

There`s that to consider .

News flash !
Perth manager of football has left the building .

lol OK, you sound exactly like how non-broncos talk about Walsh. 🤷‍♂️

just say you don't like him haha, thats fine
I don't like him!
However that is not why I think he is overrated.

I know many NSW and Tigers supporters who agree he Luai is overrated.

Not one person I know and they are all NSW supporters and go for NSW based team say Walsh is overrated.

Just say you love Luai....that's fine.

The Australian Government basically did a Titans Fifita deal. Politically, they needed this to happen, so they just kept outbidding themselves until Vlandys accepted the figure. Considering the stakes here for the Government, I would be genuinely surprised if they didn't also grease the palms of Don Vlandys and whoever needed to be "convinced" to get this over the line.

It's been a joke from the start, but this is where we, and the NRL, are at in the current world. As if we didn't need any more reasons to feel disillusioned.

The clubs all took the four million each to let it happen, they had a moment there to say about the tax free government initiatives and potential implications and they all said cool give me my four million.

Yep because if there is one thing clubs are good at, it’s thinking long term good of the game. Of course they are going to take the money, for many club’s this is a future person’s problem.

Well some of the clubs are going to lose some really good players for agreeing to this. Makes you wonder why a club like ours with plenty of money would agree to it….? Particularly seeing as last I heard most ppl in png are broncos fans… Also if the tax free thing is for individual players did the players get a voice? Or only the clubs? It is all a bit strange.

Maybe the clubs with well off leagues clubs didn't agree, the others with hands out saying gimme gimme $4m would still be the majority.

Righto 🙄
You only have to read social media comments to know that some punters will hate on Walsh no matter how good he plays etc.

My point was , you sound the same. Feel free to rebuttal.

Feel free to constructively/objectively tell me why you think he is a shit player? / over-rated?

I'm personally not his biggest fan naturally, being a Bronco/QLDER but his resume speaks for itself, and he played a significant enough part in 'most' of his participated team's achivements.

4 nrl premierships
world cup finalist
Nsw state of origin wins, and a crucial decider win at Suncorp (without Cleary from memory)

He's a danger in attack with the current 6-again rule.

And again; a real big factor in today's game is 'off the field'. Again, feel free to rebuttal that part as well.

Your nuance is that he is some B-tier five-eighth running around in our competition, which surely isn't the case.
