25 Years 25 Moments DVD - Collectors Edition

:thumbup1: classy post Bman, would love to get your insight on other old games.

Next time i watch one of the grand finals i'll post what I thought of the game in here :thumbup1:

Are you up to the bit where QLD win Origin 8 years in a row? Or just up to the bit where everyone thought NSW would beat the record with a measly 4 in a row?

picked up a copy of the DVD today too! i knew I strolled into JBHIFI for a reason..

went down to JB hiFi today to look at printers ...

left with no printer but a copy of this DVD

I actually have a memory of the 2000 Grand Final sitting in front of the TV in Armidale in my first Roosters jersey (this was before I cheered for the Broncos). The game is basically an 80 minute dogfight where all points are earned the hard way.

Brisbane control most of the 1st half but poor handling lets them down and 3 brilliant try saving tackles by Luke Phillips keeps the Roosters in the game. Brisbane score the 1st half try off a mistake by Matt Sing due to heavy defence by Tonie Carroll and Brad Thorn and from the scrum the play shifts right and Lockyer throws an inside ball to Tuquri who scampers over, De'Vere's conversion and 2 other goals have Brisbane ahead 10-0 before a goal by Philips gets the Roosters on the board 5 minutes from the break. Despite a strong finish to the half by Easts the Broncos go to halftime ahead 10-2.

The 2nd half follows the 1st as Brisbane continue to control the game and Sailor puts the margin out to 12 with a try in the corner in the 55th minute. The Roosters come home strongly and Fitzgibbon puts the ball over out wide but his conversion hits the crossbar trapping the lead at 14-6 and the Broncos hang on for the last 10 minutes to win.

Pretty dour game with very few highlights with defence dominating, the Broncos play a well controlled dominant performance without putting the Roosters away. The score imo belies the gap between the two as Brisbane always looked the better team and seemed in control. Lockyer plays a fine game to receive the Clive Churchill medal but Luke Philips imo should've got it although his team lost, he was the only reason the game was close if it wasn't for him Brisbane would've won by 20 at least.

Brisbane Broncos 14: Tries by Lote Tuquri and Wendell Sailor, 3 goals by Michael De'Vere
Sydney Roosters 6: Try by Craig Fitzgibbon and goal by Luke Phillips

Not a bad place Armidale my birthplace. Left there at 2, Walcha at 8, STANTHORPE at 10 Brissie ever since
Shame you are a roach I class myself as a cane toad

Enjoy the DVD:biggrin:

On the Roosters essentials pack it's got the 2002 preliminary final which i've seen some members on here complain about. I'm going to watch this game tonight and see what the big fuss about this game is.

I don't really have any memory of it but if anyone else here does it would be interesting to hear your insight.

we got dudded by the refs, not much more to say unfortunately.

Once you've watched it, your comments on it would be appreciated as the rest of us are looking through 11-year-biased hindsight. Bennett though did say how awful it was that the premiership 'was decided by someone other than the players', so I'm sure it's as bad as we remember.

I expect a report by 5pm tomorrow Bman.

Don't let me down.

Got a bit of a surprise watching it last night, it was nowhere near as controversial as I was expecting it to be. I did disagree with the ruling that Chris Walker lost the ball in a tackle with 5 minutes to go when he was gang-tackled by 3 Roosters players. The Broncos got hammered in the penalty count 8-2 which didn't help but I thought the Roosters played a lot better.

The Roosters dominate the first 25 minutes but can only post 8 points due to Brisbane's gutsy effort and strong defense. The Broncos get some rythem going and a 70 meter try to Brent Tate after Shaun Berrigan finds some space gets the margin back to 2. A few minutes later Lockyer slices through and Brisbane go to half-time ahead 12-8.

The Roosters regain the lead after Langer throws a shocking pass to nobody and Brett Mullins picks up the pill and goes 50 meters to score and Fitzgibbin's conversion regains the lead and a further goal from a penalty and the Roosters hang on for the remainder of the game to win 16-12.

Was good to see Adrian Morely have a blinder I thought he was the best on the field as he added a lot of aggression the the Roosters and was busy in defense and attack, he is the best Englishmen i've seen play in the NRL was a big fan of his when he was at the Roosters. The Broncos best was Shaun Berrigan imo, made some vital tackles when the Broncos were under the pump and was Brisbane's most dangerous player, had a hand in the 2 tries and made some scampering runs that got us out of trouble.

This was Lote Tuquri's and Alfie's last game for us as well. I didn't understand Wayne making Alf sit on the bench with 15 to go, he didn't play well at all but his experience and calmness under pressure would've helped.

Sydney Roosters 16: Tries by Anthony Minichiello and Brett Mullins and 4 goals by Craig Fitzgibbon
Brisbane Broncos 12: Tries by Brent Tate and Darren Lockyer and 2 goals by Michael De'Vere

Quality Bman.

What did you make of the call to penalise Brisbane for the McGuire/Hodges dust up?

Didn't really notice that sorry mate. My sister was one of her friends dates at his semi-formal and she came back while I was watching the game, so for a 10 minute period I was talking to her and looking at her photos while keeping one eye on the game.

Ah I see.

That's the call that really annoyed Bennett. Allegedly, after the game Bennett had a review of the calls with Harrigan. Harrigan shot down every other complaint but admitted he had a brain snap and got the call wrong. His admission left Bennett shattered.

Big Pete: I had to review this game of course I'm talking about the 2006 Grand Final

Can remember this game very well and it's the only Broncos grand final I watch where I get excited towards the finish.

With Cooper Cronk pulling the strings Melbourne control the first half but the strong Broncos defense restricts Melbourne to 1 try after Cronk kicks a 40/20 and Hill dummies around the left hand defense and Turner dives over in the corner 4 minutes after Brisbane take the lead after a Lockyer goal from a penalty. Brisbane respond straight after the Turner try after Lockyer puts up a bomb that was dropped by Turner. From the ensuring scrum Lockyer from first receiver drifts across to the left and flicks the ball inside to Hodges who touches down under the posts regaining the lead. The Broncos withhold raid after raid of Storm attack and go to half-time with a slender 8-4 advantage.

After a softening up period after halftime Melbourne level the game. After a penalty against Hodges for a high tackle Hill passes short to King who goes over but Melbourne miss a golden opportunity to take the lead as Geyer sprays the conversion. After an arm-wrestle the Broncos take the lead back as Parker lands a goal from a controversial penalty against Slater for a high tackle. From the next set Lockyer sparks something out of nothing as he picks up a loose pass from McGuire and spreads the ball right which ends in Tate crashing over in Slater's tackle, Parker misses the conversion and the score remains 14-8. After King is controversially dissalowed a try Brisbane take control of the game and secure the match-winning lead after Lockyer snaps a 38 meter field goal.

Some people claim that Brisbane won on the back of some controversial calls by the officials, Brisbane did get luck from the refs but the Broncos won the game on the back of their outstanding defense and big game experience. The Storm would've easily scored 5 tries in the first half but scrambling and courages defense held them out and the Storm's lack of big game experience at the time went against them as Gus points out in the 70th minute how the Broncos know how to win the tight ones on the back of their experience.

The game really shows Shane Webcke in all his glory. In his last match he gave an inspirational performance playing with incredible stamina giving his all with every run every tackle and every minute. I get goosebumps when he charges of Scott Hill with his last run.

Brisbane Broncos 15: Tries by Justin Hodges and Brent Tate, 2 goals by Darren Lockyer and a goal by Corey Parker, field goal by Lockyer
Melbourne Storm 8: Tries by Steve Turner and Matt King

and with the help of the referees. in a game that was decided by a small margin you cant just disregard one team getting an obvious try disallowed that wouldve resulted in 6 points. they get that try and its a completely different ball game, let alone all the other shockers from the refs that night that suspiciously went the broncos way.

i think the only thing the nswrl hated the thought of more than the broncos winning the premiership was melbourne winning it.

Great post Bman.

Well summed up really, it really was the vets who were able to step up and teach an extremely talented (and in hindsight illegal) Melbourne outfit a lesson in composure. One of those games where everything worked out for us but boy if we didn't have to work for it.

Highlights include TC looking absolutely gorne, only to land two big hits in a row and play apart in the winning try, the Hodges try which was awesome and of course Webcke bowling Hill over. It's between that and Webcke barking instructions at his team mates with a minute to go which really summed him up as a player.
