Great contribution there, jack ass.

No problems, shit head.

On a serious note, the season starts next week and we are talking about the past, as you can tell by the replies not many people are intrested in this thread.

But hey i dont blame draggx for this topic, we have basically bought up every topic we could during the off season, thank god 2010 is just about to start.

Its called Hype. We are about to being the assault on our 7th premiership so i cant see a better way to get hyped then to remember the previous 6.

6 Of the BEST!!!

and on to 93!!!

We played the Dragons again.

Broncos 14 - Dragons 6

Problem. I just ruined the process. I didn't sleep last night. What do we do in this situation?

You cant watch the game till the saturday night... sorry dude

my 2nd fave grand final win. a great rugby league achievement that has yet to be matched, take the last remaining spot in the finals and go all the way. 5 weeks before, st george outplayed us at ANZ stadium but we beat them when it counted. Kevvy was amazing that day and shouldve won the churchill imo.

yep instead it went to Brad Mackay from the Dragons.

Interesting to note that was only the second time it went to someone on the losing team and is also the last time its gone to someone on a losing team.

I am against it to be honest. Nobody from a losing team gives a rats when they award them the man of the match and it makes it a meaningless medal when they just treat it like it will smell like moth balls for the rest of its life. Give it to someone who 1) deserves it AND 2) will appreciate what an honour it is to receive it.

Agreed.

Did you know it was only one or two votes away from another losing player getting it in a Broncos grand final...2000, Luke Phillips from the Roosters nearly got it!

Locky nearly got screwed

Oh I didn't know that! I remember he played very well but had no idea they nearly gave him the medal!

And to clarify - the man of the match award for a normal game can go to anyone. No issues there, but a medal named after one of the greats of the game is a different matter.

So who actually decides the winner of the Churchill medal?

I remember there was one rep game (think it was an origin match, but maybe a test) a few years back where Locky won MOTM, but his second half wasn't that great and it came out in the aftermath that they had decided it at half time and a couple of the selectors said if they'd waited til FT they probably wouldn't have voted for him

Was that the World Cup final you are thinking of? Where the selectors had to vote before the end of the game for the sake of the TV schedule, and in the last ten minutes NZ came back to win?

I remember reading that as well and I think dukey is right, it was the World Cup Final. I think the Australian selectors pick it. I think they said that it was too late to change the vote.

I do know that in Origin 3, 2006, they had the Man of the Match sorted at the 70th minute mark and it was a NSW player, then after QLD won the game they changed it to Lockyer. So if they changed it in that game, why couldn't they change it in the WC Final?

Yep Dukey (and Jeb) are right - was the WC final.

So is it the Aussie selectors that do the Clive Churchill as well?

Not sure. I know it's not the commentary team (thank god!!!!) for what its worth!!

The post-game TV leadout of Origin games is a bit roomier than the WC one. With less time to do the post game presentation and wrapup, I assume the organisers and Ch9 were keen to get everything wrapped and ready ASAP.
