The problem with Schuster and many other NSW "super stars" are they are lumped with all of this praise and pressue well before they've earned it. The worst thing is it comes from their own statesman who should he supporting them.
Joey johns is the worst for it and Freddy and Gould can do it at times as well. What I'm talking about is any time a young NSW player does a good peice of work they are hyped up to be the next super star. They did it to Schuster, Bradman Best, latrell from day one, they do it to cody walker alot as well. They sing their praises from the roof every time they are in the vicinity of a good play. But they don't lump any criticism on players when they deserve it. Joey uses the term "young superstar" alot and it shits me to tears.
You compare that to young QLD kids coming through, Walsh, Carigan, Nanai, Tino ect. Yes they get praise but you don't see the likes of Smith, slater and Thurston singing their names from the roof top as the next big thing. They simply acknowledge they have potential but also that they've still got alot of gorwing and hard work to do.
A large part of it i think is NSW are envious of the era we've just been through with the GI, Slater, Smith, Thurston's. So at any available chance the NSW greats start spruking them in the hope they'll reach the heights of some of QLDs recent greats. Unfortunately for them, at this stage Cleary is looking like the only NSW player worthy of the champion status. Latrell is doing everything in his power to avoid leaving a champion legacy.
Just quietly and I'll finish with this point. Payne Hass who is a NSW person playing in a QLD side strangely enough doesn't get the accolade the Schusters and the Bests or even the Hynes do. He gets a fair wrap yes but the formentioned players definitely get spoken about in higher regard then a guy who is outperforming them.
Thats my take anyway.
