A Really Neat Little Ice-Breaker

Probably Lockyer's last fixture game against Manly at Suncorp. Loved being out on the field at the end of it, one of the best days ever!

Finals games against Dragons and Warriors for sure. The Dragons one in particular, was not only high quality, it was emotionally right up there as well with Locky winning his last ever game at home in extra time.

2011 vs the Drags in the finals was like a Hollywood movie. Tense for most of the runtime, then you get backstabbed by someone you thought you could trust (Beale), but you still pull yourself together and save the day.

what ??!! the guy was going up to catch a bomb in a desperate time of the game.

All I remember was him trying to imitate Slater by jumping like 2 metres into the air, trying to do a flying knee attack on Lockyer. I'll never forgive him for killing our season, just like Sims in 08 (though a lot worse). Plus him being just generally a useless player doesn't help either.

Lol, Beale was not at fault in any way, he was running forwards under the ball, Locky was running back and shouldn't have been there. Gerry has recieved a lot of flak because his knee ended a champion's career which possibly cost the Broncos the title but it was clearly Beale's ball and it was just one of those unfortunate occurrences. U need to forgive and forget Alec.

I'd love to have Beale back now, Locky was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's sucks for sure but it happens.

The moment itself was like something out of an opera.

A tragic moral dilemma where the young up-start rookie must choose between the welfare of his captain or doing his job to the best of his ability.

It was a bittersweet moment and I don't blame Gerard one bit.

Ashton on the other hand...

I don't think it's fair to blame Ashton Sims for losing that semi-final in '08.

There were several turning points in that game. It was high stakes, high intensity football that went from end to end. We jumped out of the blocks to lead 12-0 but couldn't land the knockout punch and Melbourne, to their credit, stayed withijn striking distance the whole time. It's easy to blame one player but there were several players who made crucial errors at crucial times (Ennis giving away cheap penalties for example). I think the most telling point was our loss of focus when Melbourne had a player in the sin bin. The team started to try and score off every play. It was very un-bronco like.

Another thing Broncos fans have to question is where the players' headspace was. Don't forget this was the week where several of our key players were involved in an off-field incident. Can you imaging a group of Storm players going for a night out on the town during the week of a sudden death final? Somehow I doubt it.

Like most of you, I was absolutely gutted at the result but I don't think it was down to one player's mistake (it never is in RL), rather several errors that all add up eventually. . .

FaithinHook and CaptainHook? I like this!

Welcome to boards captain, hope you stick around.

Nahhh ......Sims was/is a dead set useless ****.

Pissing him off was one of Brisbane's better decisions.

Thanks broncospwn.

I was reluctant to join up and post as it was slightly off topic. In my haste I forgot to mention my response to the original poster's question about a stand out win in the last two years or so.

It is slightly outside the time frame but does anyone remember the big win the boys had over the Storm in 2010? I think it was the opening of AAMI Park. In a year where not much went right to go down there and to not only come from 10-0 down but to rack up a big score was definitely a big moment in the history of the club.

Thanks again for the welcome, broncospwn

Haha G'day Mr Fourex,

I don't necessarily disagree with you regarding him leaving Brisbane. There was a time there where it seemed the Broncos were stockpiling backrowers like there was no tomorrow. From memory, I think Sims came from the Dragons. I don't really recall him having an absolute dynamite performance for us and maybe by the end of his tenure here the mistake he made in that final was affecting him (not unlike Beale last year, perhaps?). Sometimes a fresh start does the world of good. By most reports, the Cowboys rate him highly it seems.

Only because of Tariq......

Which is a clear indication of how pathetic Ashton is,

drifting through life.... riding on the coat tails of his younger brother.

What a loser.....

What a load of waffle, Sims cost us the game by dropping the ball, end of story.

He was solely responsible for bombing a 12 point lead? The guys who missed the tackles on Slater, Crocker for their tries and Inglis at the end have nothing to do with it? Turn it up. . .
