Alex Mc Kinnon our thoughts and prayers go out to you.

poor bastard.Looked terrible, and straight away seemed like it was a little bit more serious then just a precaution. All the best too him in his recovery, irrespective of getting back to football i hope he just gets back to full health for his day to day life.

Just heard on Channel Ten news they have or will be putting him in an induced coma to reduce the swelling.

Man that's horrible, I felt sick watching it live last night, I knew something broke, does anyone with any medical knowledge know how severe this could be? Are we talking possible paraplegic? Gosh I hope not.

Wayne Bennett has done a interview this afternoon on the Newcastle website. He looks shattered. Apart fro being a up and coming player McKinnon was a real nice guy. I hope the injury has no permanent effects. All the best to all Knights family and friends.

Anything in the neck (C vertebraes can result in a paraplegic or even quadriplegic).

Depending on the level of damage to the spinal cord:
C4 worst case:
Spinal Cord Injury Levels - functionality of c4 spinal cord injury

C5 worst case:
Spinal Cord Injury Levels - functionality of c5 spinal cord injury

Let's just hope it's only damage to the bone and the spinal cord is actually intact, so his quality of life will be less restricted.
Shattered for the young fellow!

My thoughts & best wishes to Alex McKinnon & his family.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Another update from the Knights:

TUESDAY EVENING

On Monday night scan results for Alex McKinnon confirmed a dislocation at C4 and C5.

McKinnon had emergency surgery early on Tuesday morning to stabilise his neck, which consisted of a disc removal at C4 and C5 and anterior fusion.

Alex had additional scans on Tuesday afternoon, which confirmed a devastating spinal injury.
Alex remains in hospital in intensive care and may require further surgery to stabilise his spine.
He has movement in his right arm and the uncertainty remains in regeneration, with a variable prognosis.
The doctors explained regeneration and recovery could be up to two years.
Family and Club officials remain with Alex in hospital. The Club requests Alex and his families privacy is respected at this time.

Doesn't mention anything about a coma. The words "confirmed a devastating spinal injury" sound very concerning though, as does the fact it seems he has no movement in his left arm or legs (at least that's what I'm inferring here).

Yep that seems the inference. Shattered for the bloke, even on replay it still looks fairly innocuous.

I hate that kind of ambiguous description. It could just infer that there is indeed cord damage, which in itself is 'devastating' (eg, that's devastating news).

I know it's inappropriate but reminds me of Arrested Development with the doctor. 'We lost him.' 'No!! Can we see him?' 'Well sure but there's not much to see, he's gone.'

His is meanig is he ran away but he just explains it really poorly. If you've seen it, you'll understand.

I'd say the ambiguity is because they don't know how bad his injuries actually are, and they won't know with any certainty until the swelling goes down.

puts jyy's injury into perspective.

Feel bad for the bloke if he can get back to full health it would be an achievement.

Bloody hell I thought with the good news this am about him breathing unassisted he'd make a recovery.

Absolutely crushed for the kid.
