Andrew McCullough

Griffin has come out and said he likes having a hooker on the bench because he views the 9 as such a demanding position. I tend to agree with him but would like to think as Macca and Baptiste develop they would become capable of playing 80mins.

I would prefer a decent utility (a la Dean Young) who can play hooker or back row. Baptiste is too small for that, as is Hunt. Who? I dunno, Alex Glenn has the requisite skills but I don't want to shift him from his outstanding form as a starting back rower.

Indeed, Glenn needs to play 80minutes, as does Parker and Thaiday... Second row locked down..

Gillett maybe?

No not Gillett, Glenn is perfect for it because he is built low to the ground. [icon_drun

Glenn would be perfect, but he is doing so well playing 80minutes, Would rather not cut his game time.

Wouldn't cut his game time at all, just move him to hooker for 15 mins while Macca is on the bench.

Could we bring on a 2nd rower for Macca for defense and push up Beale to hooker for 10 mins, maybe Gillett comes on and goes out wider with Glenn defending in the middle and then we have Gillett covering centre in attack with Beale hooking?? Something like that?!?! But not involving fullback moving like what Hook was doing with Beale and Norman!!

That's a much better idea having Gillett shift to centre while Beale covers hooker for 15minutes or so, Glenn should not move from the second row he is excelling their at the moment.

Agree, I like that sort of combination. Avoids the risk of what we had on the weekend with 4 little blokes on the field at once.

Would McCullough have gone 2nd row if Carlaw hadn't of been injured though? I think it was a move made more out of necessity than want tbh.

That's what I'm saying. If we sacrifice an extra back Rower on the bench for a hooker and one of our forwards gets injured we end up short. Especially when w already had a centre playing lock

I thought he was epic in defense last night. I don't think it's any coincidence that the Dragons mounted a comeback on the back of quick play the balls and second phase play through the middle whilst he was off the field. He returned around 7 minutes later and really snuffed them out. He is a very important part of our football team whether BHQ likes it or not.

Lol, why do you always say this kind of thing? It's pointless. [icon_shru

I think most people on BHQ can see McCullough's potential, but there's no doubt he has been performing poorly this season. Rather than generalising, maybe you should read some of the posts from people who have criticised him in the past, but are now giving him his dues.

We know that and that is why we don't handle his inept performances. He has been groomed to have a big role at the club and to often he is not up to the task. Super glad he has turned his season around. I think Macca has been great ever since Baptiste was given a game.

**** me m1c says some stupid shit. Of course he's important. He's our first choice hooker. But his form early season was argument to look for alternatives.

To his credit last night was the kind of game we need and expect from him. He didn't try too hard. Didn't over think. Didn't think he was Lockyer. He was excellent.

Repeat the dose again and again and fans will stop being critical.

Exhibit a: Wallace. I was without doubt his harshest critic last year but he's getting better week in week out. Good on him!

the beauty of BHQ is we don't sugarcoat it when players are playing poorly. We're not groupies.
