I'm finally getting time off work and i have bought tix for Origin and the Broncos v Bunnies game.

I know there use to be a few posts on where to stay but they are all long gone.

So does any1 know where some close accomodation to either walk/bus etc to Suncorp. I am driving up from Sydney so we need a hotel that lets us park the car.

Also does any1 know close accomodation to skilled park? we're going to Movie World so i dont know if its better to stay close to there and drive to skilled park.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. And if this post needs to be bumped to the supporters section please do so

You can't drive to Skilled Park directly. You'd have to drive to a park and ride facility (like at Mudgeeraba, or Pacific Fair shopping centre). Plenty of parking at Movie World however.

I'd say stay at Broadbeach, near Jupiters, Pacific Fair etc. Walking distance to Pacific Fair, then catch shuttle bus (free) to Skilled Park. And drive to and from Movie World.

As for Brisbane, there's a thread in General Talk about cheap hotels. If you want to be walking distance to Suncorp just get somewhere in the city or Roma Street. It's only a 15-20 minute walk from there to the ground, or you can catch a free shuttle bus from the city bus station to Suncorp Stadium.

HTH.

Plenty of cheap hotels in Spring Hill which is walking distance to Suncorp Stadium. Anywhere in the city is good also.

Stay in Surfers at the Goldy for sure. It's awesome fun, everywhere let's you park too. Get on wotif.com and check out there 4 & 5 star hotels they'll be cheapish and are usually all pretty good.

However you make the point you need parking. Driving and parking in the city sucks big time, even if the hotel has its own.

In that case look for accommodation either on the train line or the busway.

Northern train line: Windsor, Kedron
Western train line: Toowong, Auchenflower

Chasely Apartment Hotel at Auchenflower is nice. Right on the river, next to the train station (only 1 stop from Suncorp Stadium) and City Cat stop, so you can take the ferries into the city etc.

Central Cosmo Apartments are even closer. Park Road, Milton. Probably a 15 minute walk to Suncorp Stadium.

Not the cheapest places.

Blech! If you have a family, don't go Surfers. It's dero ville after dark.
That said, the Holiday Inn at Surfers is a good hotel, good parking etc.

no it's not, it's fine. Everyone out and about having a good time. I've only been there on weekends but cavill ave is fine at night for kids as long as they're accompanied by an adult. eusa_think everywhere is open til all hours so if you want a coffee or an ice cream it's great! It's touristy and fun.

Read my statement again.

Why would you be out all hours with kids? Why would you want to?

Surfers might be fine for young people and couples without kids, but it ain't a family area. No way in the fucking world.

Not out all hours, but coming home from a game and you might want to get an ice cream? Everything shuts at 6pm everywhere else on the coast. I've been to the surfers with kids & as a kid, you go bowling and taken them to the fun arcade and ripleys believe it not and the light show place. It's good fun for them [icon_shru .

Yo uaren't going to take them to a nightclub ffs.

Are you serious? Being a tourist I know my little brother loves Surfers, ripleys, arcade, bowling, shopping ect ect.

I must be biased. I just think the best thing that could happen to Surfers is a mini nuke.

Not the place I'd take kids on a Fri/Sat night, but through the week it's pretty tame. You're probably more likely to get knifed and molested in Bega on a Wednesday night.

I wouldn't take kids there after 9 or so, but I've been to the Friday night markets at Surfers and wandered around a bit afterwards and it's been fine. Wouldn't want to actually stay there though, Broadbeach is much better :)
