Are they referees or are they trainers?

and this is where the NRL needs to step in. They're quick to shut down a punch being thrown, a shoulder charge...a player writing naughty words on his strapping.....

and yet, yawning mistakes from the game's officials virtually go by unchecked, week after week. If the NRL won't, why won't the players association do or say something about the level of refereeing? Players are squealing for for money...because they play the game at the highest standard, shouldn't that be proportional to the level of officiating?

How much do top refs get paid? Crap job with media on your backs. I'd be happy for refs to be paid more as base with extra per nrl game with promotion and relegation system as consequence for performance. Have decent bonuses based on kpis such as % correct decisions and no major f ups and measures of bias. Should have same salary cap for top 40 refs/touchies as an NRL team. Can come out of player salary boosts not earning any sympathy at moment.

Pull them to Gosford for peace and quiet too away from Sydney media and nrl admin.

Mate if it's peace and quiet they need, send them to Victoria!

The irony of this thread.

Trainers are meant to be there for when a player injures himself. Whereas clubs like the broncos with alfie use them as quasi coaches.

Though, I agree that refs shouldnt be coaching / assisting they should just shut up and blow their whistle when their is an infringement.

I'm not quite sure that that is irony.

I think you need to look up the definition for the word "irony"

Now THIS is ironic!

I think he's saying that we shouldn't be bitching about refs acting as "coaches", when our trainers act as "coaches".

Nothing stopping any other team including Canberra employing gun ex-players to be trainers and give sound on-field advice, it's well within the rules. I hear Laurie Daley is looking for a job.
