Ashes Discussion

I'm not sure how to feel about Harris. Should I feel sorry for him that he is just isn't up to scratch or should I feel happy for him that he has managed to get as many tests as he is despite not being able to bat, bowl or field. So I feel...confused.

I feel like he has definitely taken benefit from 2 things:

1. We've been very successful in our last couple of Test series
2. He has Justin Langer as the coach

Without either of those things, I don't think there's any chance he is still getting picked

Exactly. They are pulling this Harris is the future crap but he is 29 and has never looked comfortable in test cricket let alone suggest he has a big future. He has about as long left being in discussions as Khawaja does in his career. Khawaja is levels above him. Quite seriously if Khawaja can have the most flawless performance possible and you still can’t get a spot against a player I see as to be shitter than Joe Burns at test level what does it take to get dropped. He is the untouchable man of test cricket. Especially when you have the likes of Travis Head, Usman Khawaja and Matt Wade been under all sorts of pressure for the past 3 or 4 years with significantly better averages (especially Head and Khawaja). What the **** is this continuity bullshit. That’s what you tell your promising youngsters like Green not 29 year olds who can’t score runs to save their life who clearly are either giving it up someone importants ass or knows something they don’t want everyone else to know. I just don’t see the fascination the selectors have with him and this whole process of having an extended squad with good players is stupid if they don’t have any opportunity to break into the side.

55 overs in, on day 5 at the SCG.

Can someone explain why Lyon has only bowled 9 overs?... c'mon Cummins wake up.

Scotty Boland has been a revelation.

That will be the value that Boland brings... pretty dead and lifeless pitch for day 5, opposition in full defence / draw mode, but his relentless line and stump to stump approach just keeps forcing the batsmen to play... slight bit of movement off the pitch can reap a reward as he brings the stumps and bat into play.

That was a bit wider for Root, but you can go a bit wider to him given he wants to feel bat on ball.

I'd be wanting to see a bit of Green and Cummins with Bairstow in, along with Boland... see if that extra bounce can target his bung hand.

Really really not sold on Carey. For a guy who is renowned as a keeper, he makes a LOT of mistakes / poor decisions.

Yeah I'm thinking the same.

That was a tough chance, because it got to him on the full only an inch or so off the ground, but as a keeper he has to be focussed on only the ball and not what might happen to the ball.

I feel in that instance he was distracted by the potential for a direct hit and wasn't really tracking the ball into his hands. If it hits the stumps and deflects away so be it, because he'll be out... but if it slightly misses he needs to be able to take it on the full and complete the runout.

It isn't just that though. He's already dropped to absolute sitters for first slip and I think he's doing Warner's head in because sometimes he goes, sometimes he doesn't and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Why is Marnus bowling? Boland is getting the ball to talk, get one of the other quicks back on.

The way they use Marnus he's probably just getting an over to change ends or something.

Is Lyon only just now bowling into the footmarks that Starc has been leaving??

Shouldn't he have been bowling from this end the whole time??

Can this Sydney crowd liven up a bit please!!!!!???? They have been quiet all game and need to rev us up

Big wicket from the goat, to be expected really
