Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Next in line isn't too bad when you're young and waiting for Cronk and Slater to move on. You obviously haven't watched Munster or Hampton this year- they're going very well. Last year Hampton stepped straight in when Cronk broke his arm and you may have noticed the situation is reaching the point where the Storm can't wait for Slater to be injured for Munster to be in the side they're finding him a spot now.

Really Slater is better than Munster- what a bold call! Of course he is.

You're bagging them because they're not as good as one of the best ever and because they're not in first grade permanently yet- that's ignorant. They're not the washed up player who never fulfilled potential they're young and just starting and doing everything right.
You've still misunderstood me. I'm not bagging them for their playing skills, I'm merely using them as an example that not all talented juniors should immediately be thrown into first grade ahead of established first graders, they should simply bide their time until they have a chance at taking the roll full time.

Munster is a pretty good player who I can see being a regular first grade in the near future, I have watched him and definitely like what I see of him, Hampton, well I don't think he's anything special, just a solid back up player.

All I'm saying is, even the best juniors are not necessarily always going to star if thrown into first grade full time, most of them take a long time to become special first grade players. Not everyone is Karmichael Hunt who can be thrown into first grade at a young age and immediately take on the role like a seasoned first grader.

Taylor by all reports is a special player, but he's signed till next year and he'll get his chance when it comes, I don't think there's sense in throwing Milford to fullback to make way for Taylor when there's no rush. We're not Cronulla desperate for options, we've got stars already in our spine so guys like Taylor will simply have to wait.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I wouldn't mind if the Broncos put him on the bench and brought him on for about 20-25 minutes.

Ease him into the NRL like they're doing with Kodi.

Then if an injury happens or we lose a half to Origin, give him a full game.

In your 1st scenario, wouldn't that mean he would effectively be, like Kodi, a 2nd hooker?

And what about Kodi who is playing great footie?

If there is an injury or Hunt gets an origin spot, I would so like to see Taylor get a run.

As far as Taylor getting a go in the halves, all things being equal with Hunt and Milford improving, I really can't see him getting anything other than a spot as an injury/rep fill-in, and come '17, I wonder how many lucrative contract offers Taylor will get from other clubs.

The other unlikely alternative is to move Boyd into the centres when Hodges retires, put Milford at FB, and give Taylor a go in the halves.

Frankly, at this point in time, I see Taylor being very tempted to leave the Broncos at the end of '16.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Taylor has only played 37 NYC games, over 3 years. This off-season was his first without a shoulder op after three. Physically this year he’s an improved player because he’s been able to do more physical work off the field in preparation for the year.

His defence has improved dramatically and he now has high stats for effecting turn overs and effective defence I think this is due to the offseason, his ops put him physically behind other players. His speed and running game at the line has become more selective I believe because he doesn’t have too many players around him who are similar so he’s running the show now.

Kicking game has been great this year, both short and long.

Could he play NRL- yep he could if Milford or Hunt were out; I’d play him and he was the plan B last year if Hunt didn’t have his form surge. Should he over the other two- I don’t think so. 37 games over three years isn’t a lot of football at all. The best thing for him would be a full NYC year and then ISC next year ready if a chance came up.

Precisely my thoughts, well said.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

You all think Taylor is better NRL level than Norman is or was?? You're all deluded. You just have an irrational anxiety to losing him. If he stays loyal, he will be rewarded. It's on him

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

So where does Taylor play in 2017?

ISC / Bench Utility, starting in the halves if Milf or Hunt are ever injured or away on rep duties. I think 2018 will be Ashley's big chance to cement a spot in our starting lineup, but a lot can change in the next 2-3 years, it'd be silly to think too for ahead.

This exactly. Who knows what could happen. . Hunt or Milford could suffer a career ending injury. Or even taylor could. .

Could be a new team in the nrl by then and maybe there's unrest at the Broncos similar to manly and hunt gets offered a DCE type deal to go to the new club. Milford could. Anything can happen. . Planning too far down the track is pointless. Especially to compensate for an untested young half who hasn't earned jack shit yet. Let him prove himself like hunt did through loyalty and hard work.

Well at this stage, assuming Taylor is the quality player everyone says he is, I dont think it is silly to think too far ahead or we will lose him. That would be, for mine, a tragedy, given Hodges's gammy legs as just one example, and what and when he is intending to do in the best interests of the Broncos.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I'd be interested to see what people are basing their opinions of Ash Taylor on? Like what specific games have people watched him play?

Not to measure dicks or anything, just to see if we all have the same information.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I wonder what he's like as a person ? And what his attitude is like ?

Seems nowadays that players feel they are entitled to play their preferred position in first grade, and if they can't then they want to move to another club where their chances are better.

If he's a good kid then i'd like to think he'd want to hang around for a chance with us sometime down the track.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

With news that Elgey to Manly spreading, does anyone think that the Taylor being chased by the Titans rumour has any merit? I mean, anyone is a step up from Mortimer.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I have no doubt they will chase him, but that would require us releasing him from the last year of his contract, which we won't.

Like I said, based on posts of those who have seen extensive evidence of Taylor's class, like 1910 above and Porthoz and others elsewhere, I can't really see Taylor twiddling his thumbs until 2017-18 to get a sniff of a bench spot a la Hunt.

To expect Taylor to sit around if a club offers him a lucrative 1st grade contract from '17 is just dumb

No but it's 2017 that is the year we will most likely lose him ... and have Boyd and Hodges

What does hodges have to do with Taylor?

My thinking in posting that was, and I have expressed it elsewhere - is that if we keep Boyd at FB and Milf and Hunt continue to show improvement as they are - then the only possibility I could see for keeping Taylor would be to move Boyd to the centres when Hodges retires - which I would like to see at the end of this year, given his track record of injuries, his age and the fact we might lose Taylor.

It's just my one way of looking at ways of keeping Taylor, however far fetched it might seem.

If he wants to take a bit of extra coin in 2017 instead of staying loyal to the club that's stuck with him through several major injuries, then it will be good riddance.

He doesn't come across as some money hungry kid though, so we'll see.
