Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

What did he do in that game that either hunt or milf couldn't?

Hunt and milf would both run rings around this comp. Let ash go.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I would totally agree if there was no point of difference, but I don't think that is the case.
To stay with the cricket analogy, I would say that this test team is missing a good spinner, which is exactly what he would bring to the table...

That analogy doesn't work unless one is a prop and the other is a back or something like that.

More leg spin apparently

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Let Taylor go, throw more money at Blair and teach him how to kick field goals.

Some people ...

Yes, hyperbole will get you there...

Fortunately, Bennett seems to have a higher opinion of young Taylor than most here.

I didn't think it looked quite as simple as the commentators would have us believe.

That's silly, and isn't the argument at all. We aren't saying he's not a good player.

But this absolute garbage of fitting a player into a team not matter what, just because he might leave, is rubbish. Then to talk about splitting the halves, moving one of them to FB, and moving our FULL TIME FULLBACK to the centre. That's the issue here. Not that Taylor has talent.

I believe the 4 people who have seen him play. I really do.

It's not fitting him into the team no matter what, or just because we might lose him. It's that some of us believe it would make the Broncos a better team, because he can bring something to the team that no other player at the Broncos can.

Do I think he's better than any Broncos spine player at the moment?
Not from an individual point of view.

I am however convinced the team as a whole will be better with him there in a partnership with Hunt or Milford, as besides his individual talent, he will bring control, balance and a kicking game we just don't have.

I'm also not advocating to throw him in the deep end to swim or perish, but slowly introduce him to FG to eventually reach what I believe will be the best solution for the Broncos. Ash may be young, but he has a very mature footy brain.

Fact of the matter is that for the above to happen, a reshuffle will be necessary, and then the question becomes how to do that...

Whether Hunt or Milford makes room is the question, but given our lack of 3/4 talent, moving Boyd there and Milford to Fullback would be the most logical, but there is certainly merit in the thought of making Hunt our 9 for example.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Name me the last team that won the premiership with a "small fullback"

I think the key is having someone either powerful (inglis) or smart/silky while being taller (slater, b stweart etc)

i think the milford to fullback is a little weak. . It would be him under the high ball he'd suffer for his height.

He works so much bettet as a 5/8, you'll see.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Aren't Milford and Slater the same height?

Milford is 1.78m
Lets see, Brett Hodgson 2005 at 1.75m, Anthony Minichello 2013 at 1.82m, Slater 12 is 1.78m
Height can be a factor if the player cant jump well for high balls. The high ball is not a problem with Slater because he can leap pretty well in the air like an afl player

But minichello is a weird exception i think. . And he had the forwards to compensate, but he is technically taller and is "silkier"..
