Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Maybe in his prime you could say he was 'silkier'. His last few seasons he was anything but.

I know people are dead set against moving Anthony from the halves for whatever reason but I can't see him being a dominate six for at least a few more years and even then I doubt he would be much more than a slightly above average one.

The talk of partnering Taylor with either Milford or Hunt is pretty off, you'd only be playing Taylor with Hunt.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Name me the last team that won the premiership with a "small fullback"

I think the key is having someone either powerful (inglis) or smart/silky while being taller (slater, b stweart etc)

i think the milford to fullback is a little weak. . It would be him under the high ball he'd suffer for his height.

He works so much bettet as a 5/8, you'll see.
Broncos (Lockyer)
Knights (O'Davis)
Penrith (Wesser)
Chooks (Minichiello)
Tigers (Hodgson)
Storm (Slater)

That's just this millenium...

It's not fitting him into the team no matter what, or just because we might lose him. It's that some of us believe it would make the Broncos a better team, because he can bring something to the team that no other player at the Broncos can.

Do I think he's better than any Broncos spine player at the moment?
Not from an individual point of view.

I am however convinced the team as a whole will be better with him there in a partnership with Hunt or Milford, as besides his individual talent, he will bring control, balance and a kicking game we just don't have.

I'm also not advocating to throw him in the deep end to swim or perish, but slowly introduce him to FG to eventually reach what I believe will be the best solution for the Broncos. Ash may be young, but he has a very mature footy brain.

Fact of the matter is that for the above to happen, a reshuffle will be necessary, and then the question becomes how to do that...

Whether Hunt or Milford makes room is the question, but given our lack of 3/4 talent, moving Boyd there and Milford to Fullback would be the most logical, but there is certainly merit in the thought of making Hunt our 9 for example.

What you're asking for, with the Broncos, is not feasible. We have our halves, we have our FB, we have our centres, and we have out utility. There is simply no room in this team for him. Making room for him in any way, is detrimental to the team at this point.

I don't care about his age, or his footy brain. It's means nothing.

Everything to get him in this team would make the team worse.

You're entitled to that opinion, and I agree to disagree on everything you said here.

O'Daivs, Wesser, Mini... small?
O'Davis: 175 cm
Wesser: 175 cm
Mini: 182 cm
Slater: 178 cm
Lockyer: 178 cm
Hodgson: 174 cm

Milford: 178 cm

Have you ever even see Taylor play?

And weight?

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

If weight's the issue we can just hire Griffin to be a personal trainer.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Well I mean, you can't say someone is smaller and only look at height, surely?

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

That's silly, and isn't the argument at all. We aren't saying he's not a good player.

But this absolute garbage of fitting a player into a team not matter what, just because he might leave, is rubbish. Then to talk about splitting the halves, moving one of them to FB, and moving our FULL TIME FULLBACK to the centre. That's the issue here. Not that Taylor has talent.

I believe the 4 people who have seen him play. I really do.

Well, isn't the issue here if Taylor gets a go and lives up to expectations, one of our established players will have to move position (or club), including Taylor, not because Taylor might leave, but because he needs to play ... if he lives up to expectations, and we won't know that until he gets that go in 1st grade ... and for him to get that chance ... well, I have just said it.

Any other alternatives?

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

The claim was mostly that a taller silkier fullback like Slater is superior, yet Milford is equally tall and pretty darn silky if you ask me.

It was also mentioned specifically that Milford would suffer under the high ball due to his height.

Other factors may come into it in terms of size, but height was specifically the criticism that I read.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Good game from Taylor, nice short-side try assist and a broken-play break and try assist from that....just what I saw from the highlights!

There are always guys with a wider build than others, but the weight is generally not that different between players of similar heights. Wesser and and O'Davis were in the 85 Kg mark, which is about the same as Locky, who was a bit taller. Milford is the same height as Locky, but a bit bulkier at around 90 Kgs, but he's a islander and that's just their build.

they all had different skill sets than Milford.

And I'm talking about the MODERN game

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I'm not meaning just height. . Stuff like stride, reach etc. . Milford is fast, very fast. . But that'll fade in time because his legs are smaller.. older players like Hodges are still so striking in attack because of his stride.. Just impossible to stop, could step anyone
