Both Marsh and Paine will play, goodness me.

Either Marsh will fail when we are 4 for fuckall or get a soft hundred coming in at 4/400

I'm OK with the changes TBH.

Marsh is always going to be a contentious one - but you can't argue about his form.
I'm all for selectors picking players based on form.

Hopefully it's a sign that they're not afraid to make the tough decisions anymore.

In the 78 Tests since Tim Paine's last Test for Australia, there have only been 5 wicket-keeper scores in excess of his highest Test score of 92.

Haddin 3 and Wade 2.

Do you have an opinion on Renshaw being axed?

Marsh, Bancroft and Paine looks significantly stronger than Maxwell, Renshaw and Wade. The selectors have made the right call here. All three are in form and should do the job required.

But does Marsh look stronger than Cartwright or Lehmann? I dare say no, it is even debatable given Maxwell has actually started to show something and certainly hasn't played any worse than Marsh to warrant being effectively dropped for him.

Renshaw and Wade had to go really, Renshaw unlucky but so be it. So really, those two shouldn't be included, it flatters your point @Accept.

Really, it has come down to Marsh v Maxwell/Cartwright/Lehmann

In reality, I would have stuck with Maxwell because just like in Rugby League, I love those x factor players. But when it comes down to Marsh, Lehmann or Cartwright, it's no contest. This is the Ashes, you have to go with experience.

I completely understand where you are coming from but experience is only so good if you are good enough in the first place, big question mark on that front when it comes to Marsh.

I wonder what Maxwell has done wrong this time?

Also, in terms of experience, why not go with Nevill instead of Paine? He has experience, is in ok form, is just as good with the gloves and has at least scored a FC century in the last ten years.

Maxwell's lack of Shield form has cost him this time. He has hardly scored a run. I'm certainly not sold on Marsh but there aren't any better options atm. Paine deserves a recall, a severe thumb injury has stifled his career but he is an excellent player and this is an excellent chance for him to secure long term employment. The Aussie cricketing stocks are probably as low as I've ever seen them but they should still be good enough to beat a Stokes less Pommy squad.

Maxwell's averaging higher this shield season than Marsh. Nevill scored three tons last shield season and has played more than three games in the past two years behind the stumps.

The Aussie bowlers are lethal but they (as always) are really relying only on Smith, Warner and Khawaja firing, plus hoping one of the other numpties gets something plus said bowling chipping in.

Likewise Eng will be heavily relying on Cook, Root and Bairstow. It makes for a mouth watering series but one in which Australia will prevail.

Paine has been in the Tasmanian system since the age of 19. I don't think he has forgotten how to keep just because he has done it sporadically of late. I've seen fans suggesting Bancroft or Handscomb should wear the gloves which is absolutely laughable. The selection of Paine will pay off.

What form is Paine in at the moment? Not keeping or batting.
Marsh 236 runs at 39. (3 50's)- is that form?

Maxwell 200 runs at 40. (2 50's)

How has lack of runs cost Maxwell when you say Marsh is in form- 36 runs becomes good form?
