CRICKET Australia v India Summer

Harris gets out, third time lucky. That was an appalling innings, he just cannot be picked.
Harris very underwhelming yet again. Sums up him. Only bloke I would have cracked it if he got selected so I’m not upset by that outcome.

Tough choice. I'd rule out Harris. I can't complain too much whoever they go with, but i'd probably have it McSweeney>Bancroft>Konstas.

McSweeney is really bogged down here. I do like that he is putting a high value on his wicket but he isn't asking the Indian attack any questions or putting any pressure back on them.

Whilst not untrue I think it’s definitely a very appropriate approach from a bloke batting at 4 when his top order lost 3 wickets for a combined 17 runs. I’m a game where he is playing for a test spot, the opposition only had 100 runs set, there’s 3 and a half days left, 12 wickets had fallen in the day (/50 overs) prior to him coming out, batsman struggled driving on a length, etc, etc it’s not at all a bad approach. I think half of what McSweeney should be trying to prove is that he is putting his name down as the anchor to the side post Smith. He just has to prove it at test level opening now. I think it’s definitely a reasonable approach, only thing is he has to come tomorrow and start over again rather than working that hard and reaping the rewards a bit today. Nonetheless the ball is 40 overs old and the sting is out of the attack, he still has Connolly, Phillipe and O’Neill who can all bat and bat well so he has blokes to go with him. It’s the right move from McSweeney. Patience is key. A batsman impresses me more at being patient enough to bog down, work hard for it and come out the other side of it with prolific scores.

Connolly just murders any width. I know he is so young and experienced but technique wise, he's very very good to watch.

And as is always the case, you talk 'em up and they get out. Connolly gone.

Poor from Connolly and Phillipe. Just throwing wickets away instead of taking the game away from them patiently.

Well that was a poor way to get for Phillippe, he is better than that.

And after all that hard work, McSweeney now throws it away.

Nathan gone as well. Showed a lot more than the others but that doesn’t settle the debate. Bat off continues but McSweeney certainly leading.

Tbf he had to start going after it Connolly and Phillipe threw there wickets away trying to aggress with a long tail of poor batters beyond O’Neill he had to aggress a bit no point sticking around not trying to score when nobody is going to stick around with you.

Both Fergus and Murphy can hold the bat. He got himself out and he needs to learn from that. But yes, he comfortably out-batted all the other opener contenders. The selectors will be disappointed in how he got out though.

I have a sneaking suspicion that as it stands, it is between him and Konstas. Harris just can't be picked, too many weaknesses. Bancroft has had a terrible start to the season when he just could not afford to.

I think if Konstas bats well in the second innings, it will come down to a bat off between him and McSweeney in Melbourne.
