CRICKET Australia v India Summer

Injury cover for Marsh, who's dealing with a niggle

Well deserved for Webster. I thought they’d go with Hardie as cover for Marsh tbh.

Hardie is in dreadful form and has played shit all red ball cricket of late. Correct decision made. Beau arguably heaps more dangerous with the rock in hand as well. I like it. I don’t necessarily think from his batting Marsh should be dropped but without green not having that extra bowling option does leave us thin.

Webster is two bowlers in one with his spin bowling. I think his seam up has been helped the last two successful years with his spinning option from pre-seam up.

Funky Miller 2.0

Yes agreed current form Webster has Hardie easily covered. Overall as a cricketer I think Hardie is likely the better player long term.

For sure but Hardie just is not in the form to pick him even for development reasons. Really disappointed in him for well over 12 months now.

Webster being selected is important because he’s been banging the door down, it shows other players that if you do the same, the opportunities will come. Webster in my mind right now is in the best 11 players in the country.

England are playing Bashir as their first choice spinner and he is proving to be pretty useful but he came in to the test side with a terrible record. Jacob Bethell has come from nowhere and is making his test debut because despite an average record, they feel he has amazing raw talent.

NZ are also playing an average all rounder based on FC record in Nathan Smith.

Australia need to be willing to take some risks. Play the likes of Webster and Inglis next test. Get Davies, Konstas, O'Neill, Murphy, etc in and around the team in SL post-India. Start to throw the gen next a bone, see who swims.

It's been 10 years since Phil Hughes left us.

Still can't believe it happened to be honest. So sad.

RIP mate.
Was talking to the kids about this the other night. Telling them about what an awful shock it was and how I still can't believe it happened. How you play cricket thinking it's a "safe" sport, maybe you roll an ankle, maybe you cop a shot to the jats. You don't walk out to bat thinking you could die.

He was finally starting to find some of the form that had us excited on his test debut.

Up there as one of the great Aussie tragedy's.

Exactly why we should have blooded and opener last year instead of shifting Smith to opener.

I've been thinking about this and you know what, I'd put Smith back there. He's a walking wicket at the moment but can't be dropped because of his credits in the bank and Aus needs to start planning for the future, its hard to see them coming back from that first test disgrace to win the series, so I'd go:

1. Khawaja
2. Smith (c)
3. McSweeney
4. Inglis
5. Head
6. Webster
7. Carey
8. Starc
9. Lyon
10. Boland
11. Hazlewood

Agreed, I'm a fan of McSweeney. I would like him to have the best chance in succeeding in the Australian team.

They won’t do that. We really need Marnus to find his form in the 2nd test. He’s key to how our batting lineup moving forward. They should have moved Marnus to opener from the start.
