Bagging other NRL teams, the discussion...

Re: Round 16 Discussion

Mate, if most Souths supporters were like you, lol@souffs would have never taken off. Think about that!

We definitely have a very different impression about the majority of Rabbitohs fans. Discounting the ****wits on LU, the souffs fans I know personally up here in SEQ are all entitled pricks, who fit to a T the description I wrote before. Lines such as: "Now that we got [name a new player or coach], this team is going to take off and burn the competition". Or the "Looks like we finally are going to return to the place we belong, at the top of the NRL". Or the more incisive "Your club just arrived on the scene and has nothing on the Glorious Rabbitohs. Just look at our trophee room and the Big 20". "Once we return to our right full glory, you'll just be another pygmee we crush". I shit you not, this is the kind of stuff I hear every year!
I don't know if this is a Rocky type desperation after so many years of utter crapness, but it wears very thin.

I come from Europe, and have supported a 130 years old proud soccer club all my life: FC Porto.
The last 25 years have been amazing for a club who doesn't have the resources of most European giants, or our greatest rivals from Lisbon in Benfica and Sporting.

But until the last 25 years, we were belittled, humiliated and disadvantaged by the powers that be and those clubs from the capital.
The club put in place a wide network of scouts to find the unpolished gems and turn them into the stars of the game, only to see them being regularly poached by the European giants such as ManUtd, Chelsea, Madrid or Milan, with whom we cannot compete financially.
Still, we have won 17 Portuguese championships, 11 Portuguese Cups, 2 Champions Leagues, 2 UEFA Cups, 1 European Supercup, 2 World Cups and a host of other minor trophees in the last 25 years, making us the most successfull soccer team in the World in that period.

Now, what do we hear from our rivals supporters and leadership?
- We bought the refs, we're just a puny regional club who will soon be put back in its place. They have won this many titles in a previous century and are the pride and kings of the Portuguese league, and will return to their rightful place, blah blah etc...

Ring a bell? I thought so...

So yes, I know what it is to be a club without titles (we spent 19 years without a single premiership due to the Lisbon clubs dominance aided by the totalitarian regime at the time), and have witnessed how we grew by scouting, discovering the best youngsters, developping them, all the while becoming a known brand for being a club that offers great sporting reward to its players.
We have proven that you can become a top team without resorting to the cheque book, but by being resourceful and having a great organisation.

Back to the NRL, the Broncos have the resources and the financial power most teams don't have, but what attracted me most to them and makes them my club, is the culture of cultivating your own resources, developping your own players, and making yourself the envy of the NRL for the right reasons!

Guess what, most other supporters hate us for it. Talk about weak reasons...

I understand the lol@souths wouldn't have taken off, but it is a huge generalisation of our supporter base and mainly due to the struggle to attract younger fans, something that has since turned around due to the culture in the club. That is why I understand the joke because I have seen some funny fans - hot dog man as an example. I just feel we have no more or less than any of the other teams and the Burrow is the worst example because the 30% you see do seem nutty, though I know they are not, well not all of them.

Though I understand the soccer reference I think it is slightly different in the NRL only due to the minimal talent pool available. With soccer being a worldwide sport the ability to do those things you mentioned is much easier. Plus the Broncos do have an advantage in their region, but a disadvantage is they can't keep everyone they bring through the ranks. The way you make it out too is that we don't produce any juniors ourselves and we only poach other teams players. We have juniors, players we bought young who have come through our ranks, players who were sitting in Qld cup or reggies and then players we bought in to fill in those gaps like Inglis, King, Asotasi etc. Again just like most other teams but the reference to cheque book rugby league only seems to be mentioned due to Russell and Peter's involvement in the club. Yet we haven't done anything dodgy to actually attain these players

Frankly the main reason people hate the Broncos is their success. People envy it! I envy it! I want to see a premiership but I doubt I will see one in the next 10 years. I actually like the Broncos, they are the benchmark Souths need to match on and off the field. We are gaining off the field but still trialling on the field.

I am sorry your friends are so biased supporters but most of their comments are jealousy of wanting to see success again. The way they word is completely wrong but that is them, that is your experience and that is all you know. That builds your hatred because you link it too your experience with your soccer team.

I have seen both sides of the fence but my dad instilled the realistic mindset I have. He just wasn't able to bring the passion out until I met my current GF whose family are Souths tragic just like my dad was and I started going to every game with them.

Either way, time will tell if we are on the right track and that is what position we are on the ladder at the last round. I hope we are still in the top 8 on that day.

You can bag the Roosters all you want. It doesn't bother me

I really don't get the LOL at Souths thing.

Roosters are a shit club.

This is easily the most hated remark I hear from Roosters fans, Souths fans and to a lesser extent NSWelshmen.

The NRL isn't 100 years old. It's that simple.

The BRL/QRL is just as old with a long proud history. QRL basically gave up competing with the NSWRL when the Broncos were born. How dare clubs from Sydney claim they are "foundation" clubs.

It's simply NOT F--KING TRUE!

Canberra, Warriors, Cowboys, Broncos, Manly, Eels, Panthers, Dragons, Tigers....are ALL foundation clubs of THE NRL.

/angry rant.

Re: Round 16 Discussion

Aww I'm so proud of how my little rabbitoh has developed over the last 8 years.

Re: Round 16 Discussion

I like a bit of banter with the other 14 teams that belong in the comp (melbourne fans can just FOAD) but when it comes to rubbing in a loss to another team, I HATE that, theres nothing more petty than being a sore winner.

Re: Round 16 Discussion

Shit teams:

Storm
Eels
Sharks
Dogs
Cowboys
Sea Eagles
Panthers
Roosters
Knights
Raiders
Titans
Warriors
Tigers
Dragons
Souths

I dont mind Manly the team, its just their fans can be annoying and braindead. Melbourne supporters are gracious in defeat and dont bother me much, but i suppose every team has some annoying pests.

Manly as a club are cancer. Administrators, fans, coaches and most of their players.

It's a shame about Manly. I thought they had really turned a corner last year with more one club players (DCE, Foran, Buhrer etc.) & one of the better brands of footy out there (uncompromising defence with some sublime fringe attack). Unfortunately, it all boiled over in that R25 game against Melbourne & from then on the fans became intolerable.

The sook over the judiciary (which was light as), having to play at the SFS, the behaviour of the Stewarts towards Gallop & the board wanting their own premiership rings was nauseating.

They were very fortunate that season too. I know every premiership is fortunate in some way but Manly had bugger all Origin commitments, a fortunate sentence at the judiciary (twice) & a dream run through the finals where they beat an out of form Cowboys, Lockyer-less Broncos & a side that had been flogged by 30 earlier in the finals.

Also it s**ts me how neither side is ever at full strength when they play. Always some big injury on the eve of the match which always makes it one way traffic.

The BOARD wanted premiership rings? What a bunch of tools!

****, I hate Manly so much. If there was a match between Manly and the Adolf Hitler invitation XIII, I would go for Adolf.

I hope with that match that no-one from the Manly team are Jewish...

Or Gypsies. Wolfman and Watmough should probably sit it out too.

Any coloured people would probably have to sit out as well.

Would be interesting to see which team the Stewart brothers would opt to play for.
