OFFICIAL Bellamy extends contract with Melbourne Storm

Is Mal short for MichAeL Hagan or something?

How many Origin series did he lose? Seems strange he didn't win eight in a row when he had the chance. Did he just wait till he was an assistant then say I've got this now?

Not even close to what I said.
The original claim I was responding to implied that winning at multiple clubs shouldn't be a point in Bennett's favour. I disagree, it's a huge point in his favour.

Good on Bellamy for working with he has, but it's only worked with the same core spine, he might be the best coach in the world with a specific set of players, but can he take a different group to the highest level? Bennett has shown he can, at rep level, and at a different club. Bellamy has totally failed at rep level, and has yet to coach another club. So naturally, he's unproven in that sense.

You clearly referenced the fact that having the same players in key positions was a question mark on his coaching. So suggesting was he supposed to get rid of them wasn't at all irrelevant.

Not at all, if it’s going to be viewed as a negative for his coaching and people say doesn’t count until he doesn’t have them- then the solution as far as those people are concerned would be do without them.

So he can't win- have them- well you can't coach without them- get rid of them- what an idiot who would get rid of them.

He can win. Come to the Broncos and win with the blokes we have here and prove his creds.

You can literally justify any situation except anything relating to the Broncos. It's weird.

I'd be more than willing to bet that people still say went to Brisbane powerhouse club, left Melbourne on the wane. Same with Bennett people keep finding reasons it doesn't count.

Some coaches need to win with fat middle aged men before they can coach.

Not really, if he's the mastermind why didn't he mastermind his own Origin series win? Seems a logical response to what you said.

Hey 1910, the sky is blue today.

This is a ridiculous argument. I mean who is a better coach out of Bellamy and Bennett. There are lots of extenuating circumstances but what is factual is that the former has a better overall winning % and crushes the latter head to head. It certainly seems that the head office at the Broncos feels at this point, Bellamy is easily the better coach of the two. Surely they wouldn't be willing to fork out huge money and possibly even pay out Bennett if they thought Bellamy was "only slightly better".

Bennett has had a tremendous career. He has done very well for himself and rubbed a lot of legends the wrong way through his ruthlessness. Now it's his turn. I can't really understand why anyone who doesn't have a financial stake in it and doesn't have a personal relationship with Bennett would be upset by this. But that is just me.

I'm wondering what will happen if, in what is looking unlikely, Bellamy re-signs with Melbourne. I presume it will mean Bennett will see out the final year of his contract but will his pride allow him to extend beyond that and will the club want him to? I doubt either of those.

Everything you just said about Bellamy needs one of these *

**** thats a long read without the abbreviations

And it is an entirely valid question mark, why isn't it?

WB was always questioned that he couldn't do it outside of the Broncos system, yet he did. If he never left the Broncos he would have those same question marks.

Doesn't make him a bad coach, but it does mean he's entirely unproven outside of the Melbourne system, and in particular, those 3 spine players. That also doesn't mean he can't be good, it just means... You guessed it. He's unproven outside of that.

Seems like you're trying to argue a pretty straight forward fact here.

As a supporter of a different club, why would you though.....

As has been said numerous times, I think it's more a case of Bennett is close to the end and Bellamy isn't. Unfortunately, Bellamy is available now....while Bennett still has a year to run on his contract. Next year will be too late. If Bellamy wasn't available, this discussion isn't even being had IMO.

With the constant sheer arrogance of the poster you're arguing with, are you really surprised?

You'd have to be a complete moron to sack your best players just to prove you can without them

It's just ridiculous

Nobody is ever going to do it and nobody has ever suggested it

All anybody has ever said is that CB has a question mark over his ability to win without that spine

That is a fair and factual statement

But what else is factual?

Craig had a shot at Origin and failed dismally

Craig has won 2 premierships, while Wayne has 7

2 facts that don't support your argument so you ignore them

I'm not even going to address your idiotic comment about me supporting another club. Think what you like, I don't care.

Bellamy has a 3 year offer from Melbourne. Bennett has 1 more year after this and wants at least another 2. You do the math, Einstein.

For the record, I have no position on whether I'd like to see Bellamy replace Bennett. He is obviously widely considered to be a better coach but for 1.7mil or more a year compared to Bennett's reported 1 to 1.2 mil? Is he worth that? I would lean toward giving WB (for Dexter's benefit. Names are too hard for him to read) his last year and groom a rookie for 2020. Maybe KW (Kevin Walters) or someone younger.

But it would take a premiership before I would be in favor of keeping Bennett beyond next season. It's a ruthless business. Just ask WL (Wally Lewis), GT (Gordon Tallis) and..... Well if you believe GT and GL (Glenn Lazarus), I could write 100 names (or initials for Dexter).

The head office wants Bellamy.
