Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season yet

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

You're saying Ben Hunt isn't in the top 10 Halfbacks in the NRL currently? Can you name 10 Halfbacks, currently playing in the NRL, who are superior to him in the areas you've mentioned please?

I wish you could read.

Edit: If we're only taking into account

- Play making abilities
- Weight on kicks
- Decision making on last tackle
- Passing ability

Top 10 in the NRL, in no particular order - Cronk, Cherry-Evans, Kelly, Pearce, Wallace, Hodkinson, A.Reynolds, Robson, Brooks, Johnson.

Ben Hunt obviously trumps basically all of them with his running game and defense, but you asked for the top 10 in those aspects.

He did read it.

"In the areas you've mentioned...". Those areas presumably being kicking, 5th tackle options and passing.

The first part of his comment was completely wrong, "You're saying Ben Hunt isn't in the top 10 Halfbacks in the NRL currently?"

I never said that, he's certainly within the top 10, but he's not playing like a genuine Halfback, he's playing a hybrid role because he's virtually playing both positions.

Wow wow, lets not get too carried away.

:P

Hence the "Basically", DCE & Johnson probably have a better running game.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

I'd say on current form Hunt is playing better than DCE & Johnson (and a lot of other halfbacks). I'm not saying he is a better player than these guys (although I think he eventually will be) but he is definitely influencing the result of his team more than these blokes.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

he's our best half back and 5/8th.

I also don't drink anymore but I haven't got any better at anything :(
Except rapid fire and incisive posting.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

He's our half-eighth.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

He must be within the top ten halfbacks as he outplayed Mullen and Roberts on Friday

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

I'm as impressed as anyone else so far, but he needs to prove himself over a whole season.

This is true.

That said, he has been showing marked improvement game by game so far, while doing the lion's share of the playmaking. Likely he will keep it up.

Who knows? With Hoffy just running the ball, and leaving much of the organising to Hunt, it may actually put him in a better position to pair Milf next year (ie doing the organisational stuff and leaving Milf to play off the cuff)?

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

It's funny because outside of this board, it seems like a lot of people don't understand why Brisbane fans are so high on Hunt and really it's articles like this and the Rugby League Week spread that justify the loyalty.

He's made a good start to the season, jury is out on whether or not he'll be able to build on it and improve a few facets of his game but so far, so good.

My only concern with Hunt is that long term, he may end up becoming another Berrigan, who was bit of a one trick pony in the halves. The trick of course being that Hunt is good down the edges.

However, one of the most pleasing parts of Hunt's game in recent weeks has been his ability to play before the line. The breaks he set up for Glenn and Hoffman were absolutely class.

Peter Wallace lol

Peter Wallace lol

Not sure why that's funny :o

Wallace clearly has Hunt covered in terms of his kicking, passing and decision making. But as I've said a hundred times, it's really hard to get a gauge on what exactly Hunt is good at when he's playing 2 positions.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

For whatever reason, I don't think there is going to be a lot of support for Wallace on a forum dedicated to the club that just punted him.

I believe all that lists shows is how congested the list of quality halves is. Like the backrow, it's going to fluctuate wildly over the coming months so I don't see the point in the exercise.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

Wallace has been kicking well for the Panthers, but to be fair, all he did with Brisbane for 5 years was kick for the corners.

I just wanna see Hunt kick on and continue to grow throughout the season and stay injury free. If he continues his current form and even improves on it, we're going to have a hell of a Halfback come next year.
