Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season yet

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

It highlights how serious he is about taking this opportunity, the one that has alluded him for so long and it's a reason why a lot of people wanted to see him given an opportunity in the halves, his always had the potential, got a great attitude to his football and I always felt if given the opportunity for a real term in the number 7 would take it with both hands. His showing he can score and create tries, can find holes in the opposition's defense so that's a big plus because it's something we have seriously lacked since Lockyer's departure from a playmaker in the spine. His biggest area he needs to improve is his kicking game, I think in general(not always) his got the right idea with his kicking placement but it comes back to technique for him, I do feel a bit sorry for him though in this regard, his got a lot of the burden here, McCullough and Barba need to be more involved here and I wish we had a 5/8th who offered a real kicking game(let alone a passing game). Hunt is by no mean's the messiah, but his certainly proving to be a much needed piece in the puzzle for our spine.

This, and THIS.

NRL is a game of 2 halves (so to speak).

he's not his ......eluded not alluded...What's the difference between Allude and Elude? To allude to something means to refer to it indirectly or by suggestion. To elude means to evade and escape.

It's funny because outside of this board, it seems like a lot of people don't understand why Brisbane fans are so high on Hunt and really it's articles like this and the Rugby League Week spread that justify the loyalty.

He's made a good start to the season, jury is out on whether or not he'll be able to build on it and improve a few facets of his game but so far, so good.

My only concern with Hunt is that long term, he may end up becoming another Berrigan, who was bit of a one trick pony in the halves. The trick of course being that Hunt is good down the edges.

However, one of the most pleasing parts of Hunt's game in recent weeks has been his ability to play before the line. The breaks he set up for Glenn and Hoffman were absolutely class.

He's got a quite a few more strings to his bow as a number 7 than Berrigan ever did ...

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

Berrigan was a better 9 IMO

It's a good trick to have, but yeah, Hunt's openside play has a long way to go yet. It doesn't help that, once again, his halves partner is Hoffman who is tits on a bull useless as a half.

Berrigan was a better 9 IMO

Bob Conway, Shane Tronc > Shaun Berrigan - as a halfback

My apologies for crimes against humanity, please take pity on me, I meant no harm for what was obviously such an offensive action on my part.

Damn I have been found out, Yes I am Griffin and guess what as punishment for all the mocking, I am nearing my most diabolical team selection ever for I have successfully cloned Josh Hoffman!!!!!! Yes enjoy the last memories of a side that passes the ball ever, for you will endure a side that is incapable of passing the ball!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA

Not sure why that's funny :o

Wallace clearly has Hunt covered in terms of his kicking, passing and decision making.

LOL .....

For a team that was barely supposed to so a game all season we have the 2nd best points differential in the comp (behind Bulldogs). Hunt is the main reason for that.

I thought Wallace has been going alright at the Panthers.

Back on topic, Hunt has been outstanding this year. It's rare you see a player improve every game. Compare the Newcastle game to the Roosters one a few weeks ago. He is improving in spades each game.

And Pearce seems to be getting worse.

It's perfect.

Re: Ben Hunt is on a self-imposed booze ban as he looks to deliver his best season ye

Guys, Hunt is killing it. He's got no real 5/8th to fall back on which honestly is perfect for him and the team. You're all constantly complaining about Hoffman at 5/8th but its working perfectly for this team. Griffin has a vision. A future plan. And its working, You're all too short sighted to notice it! Its forcing Hunt to be 100% committed throughout the 80mins to attack. Hook has touched on it before, Hunt tends to go quiet through periods of the game after showing signs of brilliance. With no one to hide behind, he is in charge. Soul responsibility....

Seriously, I can't even begin to comprehend how brilliant Hook's future vision has been. All hindsight sure, but give us a year or even two....I guarantee he will deliver us a premiership. I genuinely believe I can see the concepts falling into place that this "worst coach ever" has actually orchestrated. Take his NYC grand final appearance. Basically the side he has now...He's been building this team for the last three years. Without us really knowing it, we've been in a re-building stage as soon as we lost locky....let me explain...............

He always knew Hunt would become the halfback he's turning into at NRL level. I was with you all, hating on Wallace, wanting something great to come along in the halves since Locky.

I actually remember the day they announced Ben Hunt (before I really knew he was a genuine halfback), and just appalled we'd signed him on again. Then I found out about him winning player of the year for under 20's.....I thought, hang on, wtf?? Him?? A bench hooker who comes on and just passes the ball?? Contributes nothing?

The Ben Hunt I knew at this point in time, was during the days he ran on as bench hooker which infuriated me. I'd see Macca come off, him come on and be a wasted interchange. We then gave him a chance late last year when Wallace had finally convinced us all he was worth nothing but a high ball. No leadership, no creativity, pure crap. Ben Hunt started showing us signs that he could actually play footy. Watched him against Newcastle and NQ and I thought, wow, where has he been?! wtf hook, why hinder his development as a bench hooker?! Should have had him directing a team around in Q cup we all thought. Building confidence in a lower grade - we all agreed?

But...this year, especially Friday night...we saw what a fantastic defender he is. A small halfback like him. Tackling massive back and front rowers one on one! Including big Willie! watch the replay if you don't recall....what a display of ability and belief! I whole heatedly believe this defense has come from his time being blooded at hooker. Stick him in the thick of it. force him to make tackles constantly. You guys have just started touching on the mental toughness of this guy. Where do you think that came from?? Honestly? Probably sitting on the sidelines for most of the game watching a wanker like Wallace waste opportunities in the position he dreamed longingly to make his own. Don't you think, that once this guy got his chance at playing 7, after game upon game of waiting in the cold that he would make the most of it!? He is. And this is a mental and physical toughness I reckon we can commend the coach for. He wants his NYC grand final team that he had great success with.

Hunt at 7 means Macca is finally playing 80mins. He too is finally coming into his own as a hooker; fulfilling his potential. We've trimmed the fat in this team. Now we are building hard and fast into the future. Could you imagine if Ben Hunt was a NSW heritage player? I dare say his name would be popping up right now as a candidate for origin.

The same can be said for Jarod Wallace. What a game he had Friday night! Flew under the radar...but come origin time, wow he's going to be a revelation! And Oates. Wallace was offloading at will. Very dangerous! And you all criticised Hook's game plan there too....putting him on the bench and not using him at all for the first few rounds? Far out is it working! Means now, when he finally gets a run, he's making the most of it yall! Wow he has impressed me in both defense and the little touches he's had. Also having him not run on has seen the rest of the players lift. Fitness and intensity. They're playing a full 80 now. Last year, we all agreed fitness was a shortcoming. This year? Since Corvo has come on board...we are winning games with three bench players. Wow. What a forward thinking game plan that's been! Now, come origin, these bench guys like Oates and Wallace who are now starting to see more minutes, will really try to prove their worth when we have Hodges, Parker, Thaiday and Gillette out. I am tipping out best origin period yet!

What a year we will have next year if we continue to build on all this. WITH the addition of Milford. WOW

Hook, I tip and raise my hat. HEck, I even bow to that sh1t!
